why are modern games so woke

all new high budget games are woke. characters are often bland, everything is made carefully not to offend any twitter activists who don't play games anyway

but why do you think the devs care so much about opinions of the woke? do they get less funding or lose funds based on esg scores or something?

The gaming industry is about mobile gaming, f2p, and micro transactions, and it makes more money than the movie and the music industry combined - by a large margin - and it´s growing.

It´s not that i think it - the data isn´t exactly kept a secret.

If You only look at PC full price gaming, which is kind of niche, it maybe different. And usually the complains about games being too woke, are from a minority, in a minority market...

And people who think that triple A is a mark for quality are perhaps in a minority as well, as i guess the common consensus is that triple A stands for games which are made to earn money nowadays - for the masses. Sell as much copies as possible, and don´t care for the game. Have good graphics, nice sounds effect and voice acting - simplify gameplay, create some hype about nothing, copy concepts of others - and that´s about it. Distract with some details on the worldmap, to distract from the actual gameplay. Don´t do anything innovative and new, because there are Indie devs, which You can either buy, or copy their work. So the risk is on them, not on You. The concept perhaps won´t work forever though. And that´s a far larger problem than some "woke" stuff in the games imho.

And woke is as you say a problem, no matter how small you think it is, it is another problem on top of the other problems.

Oh my boring barely intractable "game", also has a terrible brow beating story, with bad characters and writing, even though that's pretty much the main aspect of this "game". Especially since it's not the gameplay that's keeping your attention.

Because Western triple-A developers and publishers have no clue about who their audience is anymore, they just follow the advice of "diversity consultants" instead of doing actual marketing research.

If they don't make the game woke:
- their game will be boycotted by the mainstream media
- the dev team will be bullied and harassed by the mainstream media
- the mainstream media will invent lies to blackmail the developers or publishers

The Western triple-A industry deserves a collapse. It's not worth saving.

If the game is not woke, we get half-finished games for $100 that will be OK two years later, or big empty pointless spaces to do repetitive boring stuff in.

or maybe the wrong people see themself as audience.. if I would make a gay game I would want it to be enjoyed by people who accept the game the way it is, I wouldnt make it for conservative religious 50year olds
