Why do killers who use knives in movies....
Go for the wide out arm stab? I never understood that. Just wide open down motion.

Screw that, why do they walk?

Well, now that I think about, why run when the person you're chasing is going to run past the front door, upstairs, and into a room with no way out.

Choreography. Easiest kind to duck, just go limp.

Actors aren't usually hired for their physical coordination.

That's what separates Freddie from Jason and Michael. Freddie's kills are imaginative and different.

Jason had 1 unique kill will a sleeping bag, the rest were pretty lame.

It's made this way for dramatic effect, but, if that stab goes around the neck-shoulder area, it can be quite deadly too. In real life, of course, the stabs would be made at a very different angle and primarily aimed for the liver and abdomen. Or towards the thighs if the attacker is shorter than the victim. The reality of it is that knife attacks are extremely undramatic. To make it serve the purposes of a movie, it has to be done in an unrealistic way.

They had been arguing for sleeping bag kills for decades. Only allowed it because they figured the franchise was dead by that point.

It was competing with Halloween and mitigating Criteron's extremely expensive acquisition of the property, so they put pressure on the part of the Hollywood apparatus that was doing Jason.

I guess from a more grounded perspective, the idea is that he's immortal and doesn't really care anymore. He just swings the knife and either they die or he gets to swing again. Aimlessly. Failing to kill them only encourages his sadism, their growing wish to finally die what drives him forwards. Himself a lifeless husk, only a response to their wishes in negative. His immortality the cruelest joke at their expense.

It's a very intellectually complex work.

It would almost be more unsettling for the killer to have a smaller or thinner knife, and no matter what happens, just repeatedly close the distance and get right up against them, jabbing the knife in over and over. Leaving shallow to deep punctures. If they try to turn and run it's just the same, but directed at the back.

That's more or less what Freddie does, and it's entirely undermined by being a dream.

dramatic effect and to make the movement noticeable for the audience
Stabbings are more fatal compared to slashing. You could argue that the murderer is doing it because they don't want their victim to die too quickly.

It's for dramatic effect. Proper trench warfare dictates that you should always keep your knife close to your chest. Because it's best for a penetrating thrust. Usually you would want to have your free hand extended to pull you and your enemy close into the blade for maximum penetration. Or if you are behind the enemy. You would want to jab the dagger into the side of the neck and punch forward. Thus eliminating any chance of the enemy making a noise and a quickly eliminate the threat.

WW1 was indeed brutal. Never forget that governmental powers used people as pawns and are doing it again. Don't be a pawn on the chessboard.
