I have a backlog, so replaying is not really something I do these days.
Also, I don't use YouTube for entertainment. I use it for education.
Education IS also entertainment, specially on YouTube, where you want your video to be clicked as much as possible...
It mostly depends on teacher or youtuber doing it...
If it was not entertaining ,you would not watch it (like most ppl) unless you mean tutorials...
Idk why, but it kinda feels like you feel ashamed or something for using YouTube... 🤷♀️
Ark breeding, Gregtech new horizons material processing, space engineers ore processing, etc
Just like Devsman, I appreciate the educational stuff. I can find a documentary on any topic I might be interested in at any time. Do I want just a quick 10-minute doc? It's there. Maybe I'm feeling a little more invested and want an hour or two doc - it's there. It's literally become my very first choice when I feel like watching something.
I was travelling a lot last year for work and began purchasing movies there as well, to watch while on the road. Some might think it's completely dumb to purchase a movie through there, but I have high faith it's still going to be around long enough that those purchases were well worth it. I love YouTube now haha.
EDIT: I might've taken this out of context. You mean just watching YouTube for the game that you're playing, or in general? Either way, YouTube is great.
Music theory is probably my most researched topic on yt. Which is a perfect illustration of what makes it such a great educational platform. You're not limited to the "get me through grade school" topics (though there's plenty of that too). If you just wake up one day, look up at the ceiling and see the popcorn texturing, bam, look what I found in less than a minute:

Absolutely. I learned piano about 10-11 years ago through YouTube videos. I use "learned" lightly, as I haven't touched it now in probably 9 years and do not remember any chords really, lol. The concept remains though, anyone can learn virtually anything with YouTube, it's unreal.
Your popcorn texture is a perfect example of my use of YouTube as well. Some random thought will pop in my head throughout the day I feel is worth learning about; next moment of free time I have I'm on YouTube looking for info on it. I can't even begin to estimate the amount of hours I've spent there.
One of my favourite channels, Active Self Protection. All about body-cams, CCTV footage, etc, and proper self defence techniques and what to look out for in a self defence situation. I'm glad I've never had to use any of their advice, but the information is next level and seriously addicting lol.
I want to be like Anton. I'd get all the clicks.

I’ve found that a way to help reduce YouTube addiction is to be deliberate with your usage of it. The biggest “trap”, in my opinion, is the recommended feed. It provides a never-ending stream of content that you can refresh forever. That kind of functionality is perfect for completely frying your dopamine receptors, which is responsible for people getting hooked for hours and hours every day.
I resolve that problem - at least partially - by doing my best to avoid using the recommended feed in favor of other methods for finding content, specifically the search bar and my subscriptions tab. I’ll look up the exact content that I want to watch, and if it’s in the form of a playlist (such a Let’s Play), you can save the playlist to your own library and continue where you left off from there. It does not solely fix the problem of spending so much time on the website, but what it does do is put you into a more mindful state where you’re consciously aware of the content you’re consuming on a daily basis. It can be hard to break the cycle of scrolling the recommended feed when you aren’t tuned into the fact that you’re doing it out of habit instead of a intentional choice.
In the future, this won’t be nearly as big of an issue for me to tackle. Once I get my new computer, later next year, I’m going to be spending a lot more time playing games than I’ve done in recent times, because I’ll finally be able to play all the stuff that I’ve missed out on over the years, due to hardware limitations.
(I’ll replace my YouTube addiction with an Elden Ring addiction. /s)
