How many races are there?
Growing up many years ago in one part of the world I was basically taught that humans began in three places on Earth.
Getting jobs as a kid I would only see three options on applications. I just figured that is how it worked.

As a grew older and moved to the USA I started to see more and more added. Like Hispanic was a new option I never saw before I moved to Southern California.

I figure what people consider "race" seems to be very different depending on how/where/experience from being raised a certain way.

Over the years I have seen more and more added to the list of races along with "other".

Now it seems the list is shorter and has the more basic local options and "other".

So the question becomes ...

Just what do people in different places call a "race"?

I have even seen Puerto Rican as a race.
Do Chinese consider themselves a different race from Japanese? There are certainly different characteristics. Different from Korean?

Should we consider Irish a different race from Scottish? They also have distinct characteristics. Even classic Roman features are different from classic Greeks.

Where do we draw the line? Are we back to the original 3 or has race become like gender and anything goes?

I just don't know. What is considered "normal" today? Is this even taboo to ask about or am I insulting someone by asking?

ANSWER - Apparently races do not exist. There is only one Race <human> and many Nationalities. Any mention of physical difference is considered bad and racist.

There's an entire ridge of racers.
I don't really like NASCAR to be honest.
The human race.
The rat race.

Hard to say but it is usually that you can not find an animal with certain digest of food.

Nature self create races to survive and we create them to gain new attributes to the animals.

Gene manipulation has occured as long life has existed. One common is lactos and ability to drink milk at adult age is a mutation we created since normally humans don't drink milk at adult age. Another is alcohol, normally both humans and animals don't drink alcohol that it is recommended to not feed the cat with alcohol or prevent them from doing it.

In conclusion what you eat is what's available and since everything is available everything become mixed up. Natural selection is not depending any longer on survival and instead animals adapt living in nature with each other as there is food for everyone.

Certain animals have adapted this ability to eat food that they ordinary wouldn't like pandas eat plants but they gain very little from it but they have adapted to eat plants anyway.

Sometimes even nature don't do what's best for the animal and instead the animal has created a survival strategy. In theory we could be able to eat grass but we can only eat the seeds and nuts from trees and flowers.
We have changed bananas to not have any seeds and thereby we have ended the evolution of the banana as it can not mutate with other wild bananas.
In humans? Only one, we don't have enough differences in our genes to be considered a different race.

We have different phenotypes and groups of people have adapted to different climates and places but we still belong to the same race.

Stupid question but why did Asians and Europeans evolved differently? I tried googling it but no answers.
I'm a Malaysian of Chinese ethnicity. I'm curious as to what you mean about different characteristics from Japanese and Koreans. Please explain them if you can. To me, the difference is less about physical characteristics and more about popular and common hairstyles, clothing, etc. The kind of hairstyles people have in Japan and China and Korea are different, but the people themselves often have the same types of characteristics in my opinion.

Even with those who are Chinese, there are differences depending on the region. Chinese from China and from Taiwan like different clothes and hairstyles, same for Chinese from Malaysia, or Singaporean Chinese, etc.

As for race itself, it's arbitrary and if you go outside your own bubble and see other parts of the world you come to realize that the "line" is completely made up and it can become blurry sometimes. All of it is superficial and we are all human race at the end.

This post explains best why you see appearance differences, but that's all it is in the end. Only the appearance. In my opinion, no need to think too hard about it.

Would you say Polar Bears and Pandas are the same subspecies? How about the Arctic and Costal Wolf?

Race is simply another word for sub-species just applied to humanity and we have also grown to adapt to different climates as have these bears and wolfs.

If you adhere to the aliens mixing their DNA with the indigenous population they would've started with as little of theirs as possible giving what we know as the first humans that looked more like what the indigenous looked like but a bit more intelligent who invented tools wheel etc.. As they were more in control, they made them better, looking less and less like the monkeys they started with and more like what they looked like.
There is only one race, the human race, people differentiate themselves from each other for 2 fundamental reasons, the first is to have a monopoly on resources and not to share them, the second is the fact of believing that we is a different race or even superior to the other which is often a sign of a low level of intelligence.

A race, a country, a village, a clan, a family since the dawn of time humans have been divided like this, because if we united and decided to all live equally, many would lose their lives of luxury. , in short in the majority of cases the term race and therefore differentiation of what is different emanates from a wealthy person wanting to exclude what would bring a loss of wealth by manipulating those with low intelligence and making them believe that the enemy is is the other race "because they are not us" "because we are different, better"...

If ever everything perishes except a single community called in barbaric terms of the same "race", they would inevitably end up separating in one way or another because this is what defines our species, there will always be people wishing more wealth than anyone, and there will always be poor people.

There are different cultures, different social ranks, but only one race, no matter your skin color, you share all the same desires, the same fears, ...
1 human race. But we dont even call it that anymore due to our history with segration.

I will make a hard guess but I believe due the climate conditions they faced.
Daytona 500
Indy 500
Brickhouse 400
Uh....F1...stuff
Motorcycle races...uhh....
Boat races...
Bike races
Track 'n' field...

Lots.
Far as I know my anthropological phenotypes... Keep in mind the word "race" is a slang term to be a combination of phenotype, ancestry, and/or nationality/ethnicity as the conversation demands.

There's a few main groups such as: African(there's a few splits here but I'm not 100% sure off the top of my head how many), North, Western, Southern, and eastern european, hewbrew, southeast Asia, Ruso, and a bunch of others. You can look up phenotype groups it's not that hard to find information on.

As far as ancestry, infinite. Personal ancestry is usually tied to a wide variety of groups some ranging into race some into culture.

As far as nationality/ethnicity, that be as many countries as there are and have been within traceable family lines.
