Do You Slow Down While Driving Through A Tunnel?
I don't. Tunnels do not scare me and am not afraid to drive through them. My thought is, if you are afraid of driving through a tunnel, don't slow down, speed up, you will get out faster.

No, I wouldn't; slowing down in long tunnels can be dangerous because the people behind you might not see you in time if you're driving too slowly on a wide turn.
But that would be on the other people, as the ones are responsible to slow down in time - while there are probably some kind of minimum speeds. If they drive faster than what the environment allows, they´re the ones adding to the danger - no one else. What if there´s an accident behind the corner, with vehicles which don´t move at all?

There aren't any safer or more desirable options when it comes to the dilemma of driving inside tunnels; I'd rather rely on my own ability than on the ability of other drivers—people out on the road don't tend to be reliable drivers.

If I'm too late to react to a slow driver—or a crash—in front of me, then at least I stand a better chance of reacting to it myself, so that the blame of fault could only fall solely on my own responsibility rather than on the unknown.

Yes - that´s basically what i said - just from the perspective of the driver himself. The one who drives too fast to stop in time is to blame - not the one who drives "too slow". So the former can contribute to safety, with driving with a reasonable speed.

Most tunnels around here have a speed limit.
The 5 sets of tunnels in this area all have speed limits. One has the speed limit within the tunnels to 45 from 55 due to the tunnels being 2 way tunnels. One the speed limit is 55 as noted above, and another has speed limits of 60, just like the rest of the interstate it is located on, the other 2 have speed limits of 35, down from speed limits of 55 on the interstates they are located on. No tunnels allow for lane changing, though at one tunnel, I see too many people change lanes due to wanting to go faster.

The issue is, people slow down when entering the tunnels to under the posted speed limit for no reason and cause traffic backup by doing so. As I said, speed up and get out of the tunnels faster, I didn't say exceed the speed limit (though I believe the speed limit in the tunnels with 35 speed limits are too slow).

Unfortunately you have to because of the idiots in front of you who thinks the tunnel is collapsing on them

Tunnels don’t bother me but large bridges make me nervous. Mostly cause I can’t swim.

I don't slow down. I do turn on my lights. But many tunnels do not want you to do that.

I've never seen a tunnel with a "no lights" sign of any kind; so I'll just leave it to the car as always.

At least one of the tunnels in my area have a sign telling drivers to turn on their headlights. The tunnels here have lights in them as well to simulate different levels of exterior light.

I drive at normal speeds but I'm a very defensive driver and would allow extra distance if I can't foresee the traffic ahead i.e. turns and inclines.

I Floor it

If there's a speed limit, of course.

Whenever I go through a deep tunnel I like to hit the seek button on the radio and watch it repeatedly hopelessly cycle through all frequencies without a hope of picking anything up, like I'm living in a post-apocalyptic world.
