fraud is very poorly defined, and INTERPOL assigns very low priority to it. as if it was somehow important that it was difficult to prosecute, enforce, or even define outside of business. which is also dominated by fraud anyway.

anyway identity is legally recognized as intangible, so fraud is functionally impossible to commit unless you're really really trying to scam someone.

identity theft means using the documents tied to someone else's identity without their permission. so also likely does not apply.

catfishing is illegal if the activity its used for is illegal, such as impersonation in order to gain money from people, that falls under fraud.

its also illegal to use catfishing to harass someone, and there is also a malicious communications act 1988 which states that "sending or delivering letters or other articles for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety" is punishable by law, this includes online communication.

The only legal form of catfishing is pretending to be a girl for the sake of it and theres no law against even setting up a fake social media profile for the fake persona.

Me personally… I always give proof (not a lot, just enough) to prove who I am without compromising my identity.

tip 1: use right material, most use too light stuff for catfish
tip 2: the right time, at dusk or dawn. you wont catch any middle of the day
tip 3: use sound to lure them. they got bad eyes but good hearing.
tip 4: they dont have teeth but using gloves is still recommended.
tip 5: use the right bait, they like worms and living things like that.
and always treat them with respect but you not have to kiss it before you throw it back if you really not want to.
