I have a criminal record, so clearly I've already done something illegal. I've also not been charged with any more crimes since then. Have I done something illegal?

Even if the court of public opinion - which should not be a thing, by the way - deems even those who are completely innocent guiltier than sin solely for having mere accusations leveled at them. But then again, we live in a society.

I've been charged... the whole thing was thrown out, but I'll still always have a record of arrest marking me as a "wrong-doer"...

doesn't even matter if the system determines the whole thing was a sham... it's just a way of marking you in case they need to use it against you in the future.

edit: kinda like how support bans people for ridiculous BS so they can point at an inflated "record of wrong-doing" as evidence that you're a wrong-doer...

I just pled nolo contendere and accepted the deal like most people wind up doing. I don't think I was at the point where I would have the means and know-how to file in forma pauperis and represent myself. Never mind that I was guilty and that I did indeed commit assault and battery.

Hell, I still maintain that getting smacked in the ♥♥♥♥ by the long arm of the law was one of the best things that ever happened to me.
