The Just Stop Oil 'movement' your thoughts
Just Stop Oil from an outsiders perspective ie mine are people who go around throw orange powder on stuff, interrupt sporting events and throw powder around, destroy peoples art work in galleries and throw powder around.

This them trying to save the world and trying to make themselves feel special.
We used to have football hooligans who wanted a bit of excitement and glory.

Do you agree with just stop oil and there actions?
Do you agree in general that yes we need to stop using manufactured oil ?
Should we go back to hunting Whales for oil?
Should we deforest ever more regions of the world to make plant based oils?
Are there any solutions?

What are your thoughts?

I think one discussion on Just Stop Oil is enough.

The other is not really a discussion.

they're basically doing what the other 'protest groups' are doing.

>veiled vandalism and attacking the rights and freedoms of other citizens in the form of a protest.

protesting pollution is fine, a lot of these companies will abandon or orphan a wellsite, and potentially expose the area to a ton of contamination without maintenance and regular test intervals.

the problem with 'just stop oil' is, gluing your hand to the pavement or vandalizing a ton of stuff and stopping a ton of people from getting through a public area, is well past a 'public nuisance'.

all they're doing is incentivizing people to get angry at 'them' not the 'reason for the protest.'

destroying priceless artwork or vandalizing a building that someone owns isn't going to end the pollution woes, and is a draconian solution that will be met with an equally draconian response.

It's some kind of activist group or what?

Yes, in my opinion Hammer above got it spot on but I am open to seeing the opinions of others whether they agree or disagree.

Like as if we need to be told in this manner by these people who could be putting that energy into finding alternatives.

Being anti-oil is like being pro-death to yourself and your country. And you are doing no one a favor, at all.

Oil is reality. Even if everything goes nuclear powered (Unless cars do too), oil is still the best option for cars and things given how bad batteries are.

Protests are exciting. Wanton vandalism is even more exciting. Facing the logical consequences of one's demands is exciting as long as you don't get to experience them yourself.

I think that they want the impossible. I'm against polluting the only planet in the Solar system which supports life, but you can't just radically remove an essential resource by yanking it out of the system. First we need to find an actually viable alternative. They don't need to clog traffic and other public spaces. They can protest peacefully in front of government buildings so said government actually puts some of the budget into R&D for alternatives and they can keep writing letters and e-mails in a quantity which can't be ignored. Violent protests and disturbance of public order is NOT how you're supposed to bring forth change.

I have no time or patience for ecoterrorists.

By disrupting traffic, they are increasing emissions, not decreasing them.

biggest question is why aren't cops doing anything or why aren't these vandals charged.

you do that in murica and you'll get locked up for a long time.

is it UK's traditions to throw orange paint on stuff? part of culture?

On one of there 'big days' after really angrying people all over with there constant disruption tactics the police did move in quickly for that one day and arrested a lot of them. edit : they kept blocking traffic.

There is a bit of a problem of police not acting and they say 'we dont have the laws to do it right' which is rubbish.
The government just make more laws that infringe legitimate protests and individuals. The news is concerned on the new set of laws trying to be passed.

People who purposely stand and sit in the road deserve to be run over and should be. Can't wait to hear about the day they screw with the wrong person on the road and they get what is coming to them.
Γαῖα 7 NOV 2023 a las 10:23 a. m.
The real story isnt about just stop oil but in how brazen protesters have gotten since the days of antifa and BLM.
What should be peaceful has now just descended into causing as much disruption as humanly possible to both citizen and police alike who arent backing them like they think they should, simply because they know a government wont listen.

Im tired of this behaviour at protests and quite frankly if people don't tone them down, it will only be a matter of time before a government clamps down.

Bunch of virtue signaling idiots with single digits IQs who believe we can "just stop oil duuuh" but bring absolutely nothing constructive on the table and just cause more polution with their actions.
