a HDMI is nothing more than a video/audio connection from A-B, so no.
If it can transmit data and the receiving device can then execute that as program code then yes, but the burden is on the device not the wire.

Can a HDMI have malware?

I dunno about malware, But they wear out if you're moving your computer around a bit, Also a lot of experts prefer display port over hdmi.

I personally risk wearing cables out just because i clean my systems now and then with my air compressor.

Yes, it displays infected malware in high resolution.

So I shouldn't use my PS4 in a hotel?

There are certain USB cables that have spy tech in them.
Remote wifi to capture, alter or block traffic or make the cable "fail".
I imagine HDMI cables could have the same tech in them.

Is there something that could block the skyware or something

Shouldn't you be more worried of hidden cams?

As for network/devices, just pop in VPN and forget the rest or don't use it at all. There's too many variables. You serving a president in there or something? Not your network/settings, never safe anyway.

I don't have to worry about a network I'm already using a VPN. Just an HDMI what I have to worry about

modern HDMI cables have ethernet inside them, allowing the connected device to communicate with your computer.

This means if that connected device has malware, yes that malware can transmit over the HDMI cable and potentially infect your computer.

The HDMI cable itself is just a cable. Now with ethernet.

HDMI 1.0 to 1.3 did not have ethernet. Starting with 1.4 HDMI had ethernet capability.

You can still find HDMI 1.3 at online stores like Amazon.
