why are all these handheld devices coming out, with garbage stats?

i seen a few new hand held pc / steam deck comparison handheld devices and they all seem to fall short with ram, 16gigs on all of them, why is this even considered???

32 gigs is basic minimum where we are at today with new computers and windows 11 so why are these hand helds coming out with soldered 16 gig memory bases, its so stupid an seems to be a huge waste , and at around 600/700 dollars a pop it just looks so stupid.

realistically how much more would a extra 16gigs , to beef these devices up to 32 gigs would it cost. im not sure the industry leaders are doing it right, seems like they are droping low specs into everything in a effort to make them obsolete in a few years.

16GB of RAM is more than enough to run almost any game. Only time it's not is if you mod the hell out of one of them.

16GB should be enough, but between bloated clients (yes, that includes Steam after its June makeover), bloated operating systems (Linux isn’t completely immune unless your a masochist using crap like Arch/Debian/Gentoo) and bloated games it increasingly isn’t.

course you didn't, computer can't use ram it doesn't have

if you only have 16gb, it will only use up to 16gb

No, it’ll say that it’s using all your physical RAM and however much page/swap space is in use in separate sections of the task manager…
