I wouldn't say it's overrated, rather amused at it's player base. You get kids playing it a lot, keeping them busy and entertained. They get really good at it too. Then you have mostly adults complaining who have never tried it at all or try it once and get themselves owned then complain about the game due to that. Beat by kids. It's quite funny really! Fragile egos.
As for the so-called cringe dance moves kids will copy from the Fortnite game... they are actual dance moves too. Of course something appears cringe when first practicing it, but over time you can become professional. Everything starts off as 'cringe'. Complaining about 'cringe' is being too lazy and having no talent/skills yourself to even bother try.

Yes, in fact you could say that all those free games are paid by Fortnite players.
I was marginally on board when it was announced as basically Epic's answer to Minecraft. Then I heard it was kind of a flop, and I forgot about it. All of a sudden it's everywhere and I have no idea how, so I do some research. Turns out a little game called "Player Unknown's Battlegrounds" was kind of a hit, and the Epic guys said, "Forget about Minecraft! Minecraft is old news. Turn it into that instead!"
So they did, and this turned out to be a pretty good move, as it gave Tim Sweeney and his CCP handlers more money than God. The PUBG guys sued them for it in fact, but this seemed to go nowhere and the lawsuit was dropped. It's unknown if any kind of settlement was reached.
A lot of people think this is true
What we have now is an awful shell of a game. Comparable to a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mobile game with moronic crossovers that make no sense.
Would have been better if the game didn't exist.
Atari 2600 Pac Man, I like playing it.
Adventure 2600 as well.
