Why are Muslims...
...terrified of dogs?

Its silliest phobia I've ever seen. I'm scared of spiders, but little a fluffy poodle that wants some attention and love? A group ran out of a room where they were doing their prayers in a panic, all because a dog got in somehow. I thought it was because of a fire or something.

Dogs in Islam, as they are in Rabbinic Judaism, are conventionally thought of as ritually impure. This idea taps into a long tradition that considers even the mere sight of a dog during prayer to have the power to nullify a pious Muslim’s supplications. Similar to many other mistakenly viewed aspects of Islamic history, today both most Muslims and non-Muslims think that Islam and dogs don’t mix.

It is not a phobia or being scared, but is part of their beliefs that dogs are inpure.

Also, unlike other animals such as pigs, this is not an universal phenomenal among Muslims. There are Muslims that keep dogs as pets.

Same principle applies to Judaism. Even some Christian sects do also have a number of impure animals.

By the way, Judaism, Christianism, and Islam are all very closely related, despite what the wars and hatred that is going on show otherwise.

Still makes zero sense to me no matter which way you dress it up.

If you believe in a god that created the universe, why would you call any animal it creates as "unclean", and by extension, call the creator "unclean".
I don't think Muslims are scared of dogs, I believe they regard them as dirty. That said, I'm sure you'll come across some Muslims who are also afraid of dogs due to Cynophobia.

Me on the other hand, I grew up with dogs and love them to bits, so would never be without them by my side 🐶

I´ve seen a Arab scream and run, because a little cute bunny got loose... He was fearsome in every other aspects I have seen, not afarid of anything... But that bunny, jumping towards him... he screamed without end, while running...

I actually think he called it the devil..... I don´t know.. maybe he had watched too much monty python

May be they had a fear of rabbits. People have phobias for all sorts of things. I remember a girl at work who had a fear of sellotape, and she would actually freak out if you used it near her.

Bible/whatever creators, ancestors wrote to give wisdom to future generations, to give ways of living, make it into a God/god(s):
Pig, filthy don't eat.
Dogs, also filthy, unclean, run for your life.
Cats, ominous, scream and run.
Cows, holy. Incarnated of your grandparents.
etcetc...

Sounds wise. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Bunch of animal racists. :lunar2019laughingpig:
It probably became a thing due disease and whatnot.. but yeah. Just make your own judgement.

Don't they consider dogs unclean or something, like pigs?
Yes I pondered on this, but it didn't justify the outright OMG SAVE ME ARGH TERROR I saw earlier. Neither religious belief or law could justify it. Just take the little animal outside. Poor little dog probably felt anxiety as it wasn't treating their "someone farted in the elevator" reaction as a game.

I don't see Hindus freaking out whenever they see cows are grazing in the fields.

Seems you underestimate how much the religious fanatics can freak out over desecrating their mumbo jumbo.

Also why a Hindu would freak out over his sacred cow being fed?

"Sillyness" is relative.

Beliefs - due to religion, preferences, fear, etc. - are personal.

I already mentioned this "fear of dogs" is due to religious reasons.

As for true fear, there are Western people with fear of the number 13 and 666, and East Asians with fear of the number 4. There are Koreans that swear sleeping with the fan on in the same room will kill you. And so on. To each their own. :poppo:

Op does have a point like Muslims seems to hate dog for no good reason, except like Turkish peoples are fine with them it's pretty inconsistant it's mostly Arab Muslims that hate them so it's fair to assume it's more of an arab thing than just a Muslim thing.

That is because Turks are a Turkic people from mid eastern asia (close to mongolia) Arabs and Turks are very different culturally. The Turkic tribes that took over Arab lands, converted from Tengri or rather, took Islam as a mirror religion (and later integrated it, to feel safe in their newly conquered lands)

Turks liks dogs.. Arabs dislike them.
Yeah i figured as much i know they are asians and descendant of the Mongols and they like dogs culturally. But even then it seems it's just the arabic world hating dogs and other muslims countries don't.

Stanley Coren, Ph. D. writing for the American Kennel Club notesMuhammad originally decreed that all dogs should be killed[www.akc.org] to prevent strays from overrunning the cities. He repealed this decree because he felt that only Allah had the authority to exterminate an entire race of the creatures he created, and working dogs were actually useful to people. He left the decree in place for black dogs specifically though because it was believed that the devil sometimes masquerades as a black dog. Basically, you don't want to risk that the dog may be the devil in disguise.

I hate to sound disrespectful, but this reasoning is rather absurd, since if the devil exists and has shape-shifting powers, he can likely masquerade as whatever he wants in whatever colors. Do they kill all snakes too? >_>

The religion of peace...

It reminds me of the time the bible-heads killed my black cat because they thought it was "the devil" all because she had black fur. Extremist, religious people are the true evil(s) of this world and should be dealt with accordingly.

I wonder what goes through the mind of someone that even decides to make such thread... what are you on about?
Its a legitimate question.

And in the interest of equality. I've talked about Christians, Jews, Buddhists, now its their turn. Hindus are next month, maybe.

Funny you call it "legitimate" when you are clearly twisting this point throughout your thread to mean it what ever you want it to mean making it illegitimate, since you can't make it stand on its own in an honest way.
