Unity is more powerful in my opinion, but it requires some C# experience.

If you are a beginner with making games, go to the unity game tutorials, they explain how code works and stuff.
I've never used Game Maker, but from my understanding, it's only capable of making a very basic game.
So Unity for sure. I took a class on video game development, and we used Unity. It's fairly easy to use, you just got to get used to the program and watch some tutorials to get the hang of it.
It really depends on the type of game, i have experience in unity and game maker(and a half dozen other enviroments). If you are planning on making a 2D game you can not go wrong with game maker. Unity is much more complicated then is needed for a simple 2D game and game maker can make any 2D game really easy with what ever features you so desire.

Does it have a lot of coding/script,i mean in the unity. Also how long did you take to learn programming C#.

It took me about a day since I had already taken three quaters of java at my college. It's a fairly simple language but not as simple as gml(in gamemaker) which does not even require any oop stuff
you should learn good C# principles (meaning OOP) otherwise learning as you go will seem like a trail to awesomeness at first and you will have functional code that makes you feel that way however as soon you start adding more features the code will rather quickly become heavy and unmanageable.

in other words its best to know why you need a foundation on a house instead of learning why afterwards/

This is a good idea whenever i am learning something new i always learn it in a test like application and not in an actual game i am working on. You do not want your crappy pieced together from tutorials and trial and error code being in your actual game. This would not be a huge problem in nuity since your code base would not be that large anyways but it is good practice.
