Is it possible for to get rid of bass boost on headphones?
Literally every single pair of headphones my family has is equipped with automatic bass boost; However, it usually bring the bass over the melody, ruining songs. I think extra bass would sound nice, but it's terrible when it overpowers literally everything else. I'm unable to hear literally anyone speaking and half the things in a game or video. Is it possible to get rid of this effect, without somehow damaging the headphones themselves?

what type of headphones and have you played with the properties via windows?

I haven't touched any windows properties involving sound quality and effects; and oddly enough, there's no sign on my PC or my computer of what headphones I have. All I know is they add bass boost and I hate it.

Buy headphones that are flat, or use an equalizer to lower the bass.

As plmoknijuhy mentioned - software equalizers to reduce it. Sometimes found with the program you're using to play video/audio or the soundcard's software, if your sound device came with such software.

WIN+R
%SystemRoot%\System32\sndvol.exe
(Or, for 32-bit legacy OS)
%SystemRoot%\System32\sndvol32.exe

Select the relevant deveice.

If available, select Enhancements tab

if your sound card driver has options for equalizer settings, then perhaps you can tone down bass... (for all sounds: speaker and headser)

It didn't work. I don't know ;-;
There's a glitch in the headset that if I tamper with the wires enough by twisting it when it's plugged in, it apparently manages to sound normal. Problem is, 90% of the time it's very risky, leading to choppy sound, back to bass boost, or even no sound going to the headphones.
