i think it is relegious attributed of sorts or like wearing glasses to appear smart, or both, like for example when people wear a tie to represent it they are "office" workers. in general terms i dont think it makes any difference as virtually anyone can wear fedora or other type of clothes without attibuting it to anything as they are not required to have a "licence" to wear it, so even if person wearing fedora actually stands against anything that fedora stands for they still may wear it.
