PSA: George Lucas lied.
He didn't actually write all six Star Wars movies in the order they're numbered. He lied. Nobody does that. There would be no reason to make part four first. None. He lied. Nobody believed him. It was a bad lie. He's a bad liar.

THEREFORE

Release order is writing order, which in turn makes it the correct order.

THEREFORE, BY EXTENSION

This applies to everything, because George Lucas is not unique.

Everytime i see this thread on the front page, i read "lied" as "died".
Ugh, I see OT is being extra catty this morning.

George Lucas DID write the 6 movies in order.
When he wrote Ep 4, he first had to write the backstory and lore for it. Such as explaining what the Clone Wars were, what the Old Republic was, how Obi-Wan and Vader knew each other, etc.

And that backstory was later made into actual movies.
(No idea why the OP is trying to pull the Family Guy "A Big Fat Phony" bit)

Well yeah.

What sense would it make if your first movie was called "Star Wars - Episode IV"?

Because he was trying to invoke the feeling of the old Saturday Night TV serials, to make it feel like a series you tune into every week.
...Which is partly why he had so much backstory written.

The original theater showings didn't have the Episode IV in it because the studio executives veteoed Lucas' idea. They later relented when the movie turned out super-popular.

Doesn't matter at this point, the lore is so soiled and there is so much more bad than good its just destroyed as a franchise.

Grow up, kid.

The sequels happened, and are 100% canon.
Quit letting YouTube tell you what to think.

Ok, TWO people believed him.
All i want from Star Wars is something old republic related. They can tell me REY is the chosen one and I don’t care, I just want to see revan in the big screen, or vitiate, or Malgus , or the ten thousand other characters who deserve the spotlight more than Ashoka or boba fett do.

Ok, TWO people are correct.

Fixed it.
That was quite the typo you had there.
I guess it's too late at this point for the followup PSA that this thread wasn't supposed to be about Star Wars, lol.

Star Wars was just the proof by which I was establishing that release order is always the correct order

Ever heard of executive meddling, and networks airing out of order?

So no, release order means nothing.
who would've known prequels made after the original trilogy were written to be before those events

Well, that's one of the more believable counteragruments.

But it's also a double-edged sword in that now it's clear that they would have meddled with the writing between releases also, again making release order the correct and only order.
