It Twitter. Elon even knows it so they leave the Twitter name up. X stands for x rated and drugs. Elon hasn't changed the name x to something better so everyone uses Twitter name. Anyone who says X doesn't know what X stands for.
The letter 'X' already has multiple trademarks too.
'X' was trademarked by Microsoft back in 2003 for it's Xbox Games and Communications.
'X' was trademarked by META back in 2019, which was a blue and white letter X for it's software and social media. xTwitter's own rival platform which could use X, changed to use an infinity symbol logo instead... otherwise they could easily sue and claim the ownership themselves.
'X COM' is an old video game series from Firaxis Games, published by 2K, about countering an alien invasions of Earth.
The only real purpose for using a single letter for an entire company name, is to make it hard and confusing for news reports and others discussing negatively about it. Therefore they always have to say 'formerly known as Twitter' to report on it.

Makes sense but also kills gaining consumers when you can't even speak about it.
The irony is they keep twitters name because they know people will still call it twitter.
Or it a war to get rid of trademarks. I hate calling it X because if you say have you watch x sorry I don't watch x rated stuff, hey do you use x sorry I don't do drugs.
Then the logo it self makes people not even want to click it.
When you purchase a company, it's can be really expensive due to being an already established business, with a registered well-known trademark, customer base and well-educated professional employees who already know what they are doing and how to run it.
Elon Musk just gets rid of all that. So he's actually burning off what he originally paid for.
As a businessman, that is clearly illogical unless there's another reason behind doing so or being paid off to do so. No real millionaire or billionaire, who had actually made money via doing business in the past legally would otherwise do so.
Elon Musk had removed ads titles, reporting and transparency. He's removed account verifications. He's removed the trust and safety features, including for disinformation removal. Then he's allowed for policies, including for ads (which no longer appear like ads). Those ads are even now coming from an unknown and unlabelled third party, which will likely get banned/blocked/fined in the EU (European Union's Code of Practice on Disinformation). Clearly, from a logical view point, you can assume he's been paid off to do so? Every single change he's done so far aligns into doing so, taking into consideration he's not just an idiot who doesn't have a clue how to actually run a business.
There was also (After War) Gundam X.
X as platform name... Well... No opinion. Maybe it's not supposed to be called "ex", maybe it's supposed to be called "cross-mark"
I don't know changing a name after buying it is a good idea only the former consumers will remember the original name. Then you can say you founded it. If I brought a company, I would change the name but it would probably take while to find a name I like that isn't trademarked. But the young consumers will know it by its new name not the old one and eventually no one will even know you brought it and change it if there is no one alive who remembers the old name or knows where to look for it.
We hired a social media coordinator and we were impressed that he called it "X" on the day it launched.
Who's "we" then? Prince Alwaleed bin Talal al Saud?

He had reached a secret agreement with the government for his release, after being arrested for corruption and is one of the major fundings for Elon Musk to purchase/change xTwitter.
He had invested $500 million towards xTwitter. As part of the deal, anyone who invested $250 million or more gets special access to confidential company information.
