I guess it's so creepy in that game because the game is open world so you really aren't expecting it when it randomly happens, and the game is very immersive, so you're already well immersed in the game by the time the random creepy event happens to you
So I think the main components to making something creepy or scary happen in a game are #1 them being spontaneous and unexpected, and #2 the game being really immersive
Wait seriously?? I never saw that in RDR2. Dang gotta look that up on youtube or something.
Oh yeah… it isn’t an easy game either. Most monsters (even the common ones) can end you really easily if you’re not careful. Ammo is hard to find and even if you do find Ammo you can only carry a maximum amount.
Every other genre has been exactly the same since like '09.
I was thinking of mixing genres with horror, or trying out whole new setting, and idea with horror. Something that full of tension, and mystery rather than monsters just coming at you. Something that has you on edge with sound design, darkness, and f-ing with your mind. Games can for sure be harder, and i think it would be good to have more horror games where you can actually fight back to whatever it is, rather that run and hide in a closet for 5 min just to leave it and die anyways. lol Which most games i feel do lately.
10 years is a long time for games i feel to be stuck in a formula. Also i disagree, i think a lot of genres have changes a good bit. Action Adventure for instance with games like Breath of the Wild/Tear of Kingdom, God of War, or Hogwarts Legacy for example changed up some things a bit. Genres like racing, or fighting i can see not being able to change much. Other genres i think has hcanged a good bit tho. Horror just needs something new i feel. Something outside P.T.
But at a gameplay level, the only thing that has changed is now every game has every mechanic in the universe in it.
It's true your average '09 racer wasn't an open world experience grindloop, but that's more because an open world grindloop racer is a psychotic idea.
Well more "retro" then "revolutionized"... back to fear and suspense of things scary... less gore
Yeah that could be part of it.
