I like singleplayer when I'm burnt out on FPS' and just want to play chill games
Being able to pick a sub-par and fun build without getting flamed is nice. Just about had it with the whole "games as a service" thing too.
Having to give a contract phone number just to play a game. Multiplayer game companies are getting delusional.
Online multiplayer just isn't as fun as LAN parties in the past. Too competitive. It's always as if there's something on the line, no fun allowed. Can't really enjoy an RTS game unless you're playing by the meta and have 300-400 APM. Fighting games: Gotta get into them in the first 2-3 months or you'll fall behind big time and mostly just get trounced without understanding how and why.
MOBAs and FPS games are horrendous cesspools of toxicity so I really don't see the appeal. There's so much flame, one might think it's one of the circles Dante Alighieri was writing about.
Playing with strangers are bad. At least in asia server.
If I have friends to play with; Multiplayer. Either competitively if they wish to sweat, but mostly casually just to have fun with other people.
I have yet to find a good co-op to play with my friends, because I can't be the only one who's having fun.. The mood and the atmosphere would've affected everybody, turning the fun to boredoom and frustration for playing something they don't even wish to hear about.
Personally, I think it comes down to being disappointed by most multiplayer games. If you'd asked me 5 years ago? I'd probably tell you that multiplayer are my favorite.
These days it seems multiplayer is a cesspit. Team games are pretty much unplayable. Unless, you have a number of friends that can play on a regular basis. Playing with randos is a sure way to have a bad time. As they will either be terrible at playing, or mad you aren't as good as them.
One-on-one games aren't any better. As you'll be dealing with people that will abuse game mechanics to the point you can't win. And it will happen from day one. Because almost all games don't penalize smurfing.
I still play multiplayer games, but not like I once did. These days, I find single-player preferable. I don't have to worry about what other people are doing. I can play at my own pace. With a difficulty that is challenging, but achievable.
