Why can't we follow Asian culture of shaming fat people?
So, that way everyone is pressured to stay fit and we wouldn't have any epidemic of health issues?

Can shame Asian cultures for a hell of a lot more than they can shame a fat person. ...False religion...

Sure, good argument, is not your religion/beliefs, must therefore be "false".
Lot of reasons I say that. It's not the type of claim I rush to make, I usually abstain from criticism of others' beliefs, but there are things I know are extremely unlikely to be true.

It's a sour note that they believe in such things, but call what I believe foolish.

Would I change things? No. I think things are the way they are for a reason. But I also know what I know, and it is a factor I consider in whether or not I agree with that side of the world.

maybe shaming fat acceptance activists because they are liars, but not the random fat people who have nothing to do with this stupid movement.

Could just stop putting unnecessary amounts of sugar in things that have no reason to be sweet.

High fructose corn syrup needs to be entirely removed as well.

Again, just becuase something is cultural ,does not mean it cannot be wrong and that does not need change...

Becuase first of all, you do not get anything useful by shaming them...

Second, becuase is not effective... Is not going to reduce the issue at all by doing that...

And third becuase it causes more problems than good...

Even some of these countries have some obesity problem v:

Just becuase something is "cultural" does not mean is wrong... If you want someone to lose weight ,shaming said person for it is not the best idea...

This is no longer 1964, shaming ppl for something is no longer effective even though I highly this method was effective in the past :steambored:
One of the original goals of Sumo, as a national evolution of smaller shuai jiao tournaments, was to discourage the practice of raiding neighbors for food. This is because often people would invest their koku into weapons armaments soldiers etc, and leave almost nothing behind for people to actually live off of. Because you could just raid your neighbor for their food, with the military investment.

Obviously if two neighbors do this both starve, and this was a rampant issue in the post-Nara period. Also just kind of a systemic problem from before nationalization as well.

However, having the food surplus necessary to maintain a stable of talented wrestlers required a certain kind of institutional investment in the people themselves. It also allowed for lucrative betting pools, which was more or less the same thing as raiding except you didn't waste money on weapons and armor. Just skipped right to the money, and everyone got fed.

So I think that, at least in Japan, shaming fat people is disrespectful to both the ancient art of Sumo as well as people in need of food. A problem Japan's economic situation has left them unable to fully address, as they need to rely on food production and export for the baseline economy that their tech and cultural industries rely on. And as a result people need to limit their food consumption, just to maintain that economic nut.

I don't really see why prosperity should mean people are still starving, but they're hardly the only ones. The US has a similar issue, as do any other food-producing countries like Ukraine.

High fructose corn syrup doesn't have that much more fructose than table sugar though. Even honey is close on fixtures content. The other sugar type is glucose. Glucose is easily suggested. Sucrose is table sugar and contains 1 fructose and 1 glucose molecules combined. Maltose may be the sugar to prioritize since it's 2 combined glucose molecules making it the healthiest. Maltose is made from barley. I know this from being a brewer.

I'm pretty sure sumo wrestlers aren't shamed there and live a royal like life, probably get a lot of poontang too

The US has a larger issue with protein deficiency, as its lands are best used for growing plants rather than raising animals and investment in plant-based protein has been...poor.

As a result a lot of people eat calorically dense foods merely to get the small amounts of potassium and protein in the corn slurry. The industry capitalizes on this by restricting protein intake and availability in order to sell more calories.

Japan's 'luxury' meat market, and the obscene wastage which goes into creating that 'luxury,' is similar.

There's a sumo wrestler, who is (marginally) respectable. Then there's a fat person, who is unfavorably compared with a sumo wrestler.

It's that second duplicitous aspect which is the main issue. It's clearly not the case that they are truly respected, instead only tenuously accepted and honored for self-centered reasons.

You really should read the DSM-5.
Why not give some relevant excerpts? It's up to you to make your case.

Its not only Asians who do it. Lets say it like this, its most western cultures who do NOT do it.

I am not a big fan of shaming people for something, but I think it should certainly be battled because obesity is extremely dangerous and unhealthy, its nothing people should ever tolerate or accept.
Yes because that works 100% and there are no overweight Asian people.

Higher rate of suicidal ideation on Korea. A country where fat shaming is prevalent. Fat shaming is NOT the way.

Okay but obesity is made up. You're creating an idealized 'thin version' of someone whose bone structure may not even support that, and creating 'acceptable sizes' for peoples fat stores to be placed in and shaped around.

It's simple genetic discrimination at its core, all other factors aside.
Being fat is a choice.

Make sure you bulk yourself fat before you cut, otherwise you'll have health problems.

So PCOS - a literal condition that causes weight gain is a choice?

There are others and yes some people do over eat. But that's not the case for everyone.
