I am sick of being forced to play ugly characters

New fable games protagonist is eurgh. I like fable, but they could have made her not actively ugly?

With lara croft they literally got rid of anything that made her 'sexy', and made her so plain now.

Apparently having curves is offensive. And 'representation matters'. OK what about representing women who have boobs and butt's but still want to be outlandishly badass?

The standard is still like such for men and no one complains about it. Its so frustrating :(.

Examples: Joanne dark, lara croft, Regina from dinocrisis.

I'm just gonna edit this because I've had to r/whoosh so many people:

Not my point at all. I still enjoy games, I'm not butt hurt about a character being ugly or not attractive. I'm complaining about the lack of strong powerful but also independent and sexually liberated characters in the industry. Think Lara Croft Tokyo level, where she hides dual pistols in her garter and kicks ass.

'Play 18+ games'
I'm not after porn. I'm after a strong female character that can act as a role model. I remember being like 7-8 running around in my swimming costume with water pistols pretending I was Lara Croft. Being excited about growing older, and having the woman parts she had but also being as cool and badass as her. I used to buy the guide books which had the risqué pictures at the back and I thought she was so cool and strong and free thinking.

Most female characters now are a husk of that. If they are that level of attractive then they are boring and have no personality. Or are helpless. Think Ashley in Resi. Annoyingly helpless at times and it feels like Leon has to constantly baby her like 'ooh Ashley ur so good at turning a wheel, such big brain'. It's just, eurgh -.-. Give me more Ada Wong (minus the atrocious voice acting). Hell make a resi with Ada as the playable main char.

I struggle to think of any other examples of an adult human female protagonist who does not look like a super-model, and even amongst the non-humans, the examples are scarce and arguably live up to the standards of beauty for their kind, which is to say, Ms. Pacman certainly didn't have trouble finding a husband.

Also, regarding Laura Croft, the redesign kind of makes sense? Now I do not mean to suggest that she could not have been made more curvaceous if the designers wanted, but having a 1990s Playstation 1 mascot running around in a realistic environment is a rather ludicrous thought, and even if Laura works better than Spyro or Crash in that regard, she still looks too much like a Barbie doll that is ready to snap in half like a twig at a moment's notice for it.

Plus hey, we are supposed to be getting Tomb Raider Ⅰ–Ⅲ remasters where Laura looks more like her old fashioned self in February of 2024 anyway, so you can have fun playing those if, well, I'd say nothing else but there is plenty of else to be had. I mean, have you seen Samus? XP

'Laura croft' - any opinion you have is already pretty invalid.

But also the games I listed are over 2 decades years old.

Being serious, I don't understand your complaint. I don't think they made her ugly, the new version of Lara is still very conventionally attractive

Yes she doesn't have the hourglass figure anymore but I don't think it's a big deal, also I think the 2013 TR dev's fetish for making her have weirdly out of place gruesome deaths and injuries was much weirder than the hourglass nerf

if we manage to have that game within reasonable time, plus the Tomb Raider remakes in 4 months from now (and personally having both BloodRaynes on discs), think we're good tbh.

First I'd argue, what was wrong with her having an hourglass figure?

They also took away a lot more than that, they took away her attitude, bad assery, made her weaker, nowhere near as smart/knowledgeable. They made all the games copy and paste and forgettable.

Regarding 2013 tomb raider, I take it you're referring to legend, underworld, anniversary reboot? They didn't change anything about her deaths, if anything they changed it for the most recent reboot. Ragdoll deaths are just good fun. But the newest reboot screams 'we're trying to be realistic and no woman with bobas and butt's can kick ass and no woman can have a badass self sufficient personality'. Hell I remember in the first of the reboot getting frustrated with new Lara for consistently messing up. Old Lara wouldn't act that way.

Also with legend, underworld, anniversary, they weren't the best tomb raider games but I'd still argue that they were infinitely more memorable than new Lara. Tokyo level was a big fat yep. New Lara would never wear a dress like that and if she did, she'd look like a plain ass boring washboard and would not stand out in the party at all, let alone hide dual pistols in her garter. Way hotter. Same way Angelina Jolie poops on Alicia Vikander.

For overall sex appeal, as above, Jolie > vikander (God those films were forgettable). Same way Karima Adebibe > Allison Carol for examples. You can't argue vikander and Carol have more sex appeal than their counterparts.

But I get where OP is coming from, she just wants to play characters with her preferred appearances. I've had similar thoughts with certain appearances and would have loved to customise them but it's not a game breaker.

Agree, like, you bet your butt's I'm still going to play Fable 4 - but I just miss games with smart, capable but also ridiculously hot women. They don't really do that anymore :(.
