Immersive games that suck you in
okay, so I've been looking for games that immerse you.. but not games that are RPGs with immersive aspects to it. I'm specifically looking for a game with a dynamic weather system, where the little things can fully immerse you. for example: there's a game called Shadows of Doubt that I purchased a while back and everything is pretty immersive even though its a voxel game set in a cyberpunk world, but I can literally just turn on the tv, sit on the couch and drink wine all night. you can hear (and see) the rain hitting your window and the sound design is phenomenal. another game that has a lot of immersion is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. anomaly (and all the modpacks) where you can light a fire, shelter up from a storm and smoke a cigarette, eat food and drink while you listen to other stalkers conversate and such. Thats what i'm looking for.

I'm not looking for a game thats meant to be played in multiplayer like Rust or an RPG (especially any Bethesda game) or any game that doesnt have at least SOME survival aspects like keeping warm or eating and drinking. I'm just checking in here to see if theres any gems I havent played yet that fit this category. thanks everyone!

Arx Fatalis is really immersive in the sense you are stranded in caverns the whole game, actually i think i've played all the game everyone listed in the thread so far except Silent Hill games and some others.

I'd say many are solid choices.

So i'll try to make an exhaustive list of what i think about them :

Arx Fatalis : Good game probably still broken without patches on Steam, it's not really linear but you can't say it's an open world either, it's really scripted but not in a bad way, you might enjoy the game but completing it by doing everything in one go is impossible if you don't have a perfect do it all build.

Valheim: Good game , still not complete you probably should wait for the Ashlands map to drop and the last map as well if it ain't enough, Mistlands sucks which is the last biome revealed in the game, in it's current state i can't recommend it because currend endgame is kinda ass and also idk if coop is better than solo, that's up to you.

Morrowind : The least bad of all the modern TES games, arguably the best TES game in existance probably above or bellow or tied with Daggerfall as this title, make what you want of this, it's an open world RPG with the entire map supposedly not being randomly generated, i think that was a selling point back then. It's a solid game but again it's Bethesda so it needs patching and current version on Steam is kinda broken and crash every 15 minutes on Windows 10.

Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead : Excellent game but the learning curve is extreme and my dumb ass still get clapped in situations that sounds unsolvable when you have not a top tier character, extremely hard to get to that point too just like Project Zomboid, i will probably draw more comparison to both because PZ is basically a tamer version of CDDA aka not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane and actually incomplete still unfortunately, both are worth playing but you might get irritated at your failures especially with CDDA because it feels like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at times, i'm sure you need to read actual guides for this game though which i haven't done.

Project Zomboid : Good game, also kinda bs in rare cases like having 3 home alarms back to back when you try to break in and die to exhaustion because of it, it is as hard as you make it be though, plenty of ways to cheese but i hardly use any which is why i die so often, also i had seriously dumb death so i can blame myself for that too, it can be fair but if you lose your focus you can lose everything, obviously it has a crazy replayability and you don't have to play tryhard "i am trash at first then become god" builds like i do, just enjoy the game the way you want and it will be fine.

7 Days to die: The game gets updated frequently, recently they nerfed water consumption for instance and peoples were mad at it even though it's a small part of the game being revamped, they nerfed inteleigence builds which was a good thing, well you get the gist it's a zombie horror game like the 2 others above, it's first person and 3D unlike them it has depth to it and the game will destroy you if you start getting injuries back to back no matter the difficulty it can be extremely hard just like it can be easy you can shoose the difficulty but i would keep things simple at first the hardest difficulty just isn't fun, maybe toggle it later to that hard instead of starting with it is almost impossible to survive in certain situations at level 1.

I've played everything on the list besides Cataclysm and Arx. I dont think Morrowind is what I'm looking for when I think of dynamic weather and immersive survival but neither is any bethesda game if i'm being honest here. Arx sounds pretty good but it doesnt seem like it has any kind of survival element to it or any weather mechanics so although I'd definitely like to try it out its definitely not what I'm looking for. Cataclysm seems like a crazy detailed game but I can't see myself immersed in it given how it looks like dwarf fortress and I couldnt get into that. I appreciate all your input and either way I might give Arx a try

Arx Fatalis only basically has food as a survival mechanic, it's not really a game that oriented on that aspect of things it's really you are a guy trapped in caves and you have to do quests and ♥♥♥♥, but it's a really good game at that, maybe a bit dated but it has good bases. Also got an unique magic system never seen everywhere else.

CDDA is definitely hard to get immersed in but you should definitely try to find tiles for that and maybe soundpacks, modding this game at least in graphic and audio aspect is definitely a plus and all the modpacks you can use with the Modpacks can change the game further too, but i mostly play vanilla and it's fine but honestly you require ton of patience with this game and irl knowledge can really be helpfull too with chemistry for instance too, this game has ton of depth but it might not be for everyone due to how it plays, looks and sounds like. PZ is definitely the light version and real time deal of this but you already know this i'm sure.

I definitely liked Long Dark. Sucked me in. Others didn't like it. Another that consumed me was red dead Redemption 2

I am looking to Rimworld for my next largely played game, as it looks like you can do anything. It's a "roguelite" type graphics, but it seemingly looks like it will consume my soul

Dying Light - Sitting on a rooftop at night chilling while you wait for dawn.. scary and fun.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided - Immersive sim.
Metal Gear Phantom Pain - You can literally sit back and recon while smoking a cigar
The Hunter Call of The Wild - Very relaxing, you don't even have to hunt. Just explore.
Dwarf Fort - Sit back and watch it run
NMS - Make a place your home
Elite Dangerous - Limitless exploration. Get roving.
Empyrion - Build any and everything while chilling out
Rings of Saturn - Immersive space sim
Talos Principle - So chill to relax and solve puzzles with a narrative
Crashlands - Make a planet your home.
Neo Scavenger = Scavenge, slowly. Survive, slowly.
Starbound - Like Terraria
It Lurks Below - Like starbound and terraria with noita
Pathologic 2 - Quite Immersive. Depressing imo
Arx Fatalis - Mentioned
Project Zomboid - mentioned
Vanishing of Ethan Carter - Great walking sim / narrative / puzzler. Immersive
Most Sherlock Holmes Games - I like these for immersion.
Metro games - Most immersive fps games imo
7 Days to Die -mentioned
Abzu - My most relaxing game
Shadow of Mordor - Similar to dying light, I like to sit up and watch and plan...
Witcher 3 - My love
Kingdom Come Deliverance - Highly immersive
Firewatch - A great experience. Narrative walking sim. Immersive imo.

Many of these games are absolutely immersive but I don't think 90% of them apply to what I'm looking for specifically. They need to have some sort of survival aspect that I'm honoring by sheltering up and smoking/eating/drinking for the purpose of survival. for example, in MGS V yeah you can smoke a cigar while reconing, but you're not smoking the phantom cigar to calm Big Bosses nerves, you're doing it to fast forward time, and although its a phenomenal game, it doesn't really have most of things i'm looking for (but I'll admit when it rains, I LOVE sitting in a little shack just listening to it) but it isn't in the game as a mechanic for suvival as much as it is a mechanic for stealth. Puzzle games and walking sims don't apply either but talos is a great game! Pathologic 2 is a phenomenal game but the time constraint thing stresses the living heck out of me ( i had to use a mod to change that but it felt like it ruined the game tbh)

Witcher 3 is great too but immerses me in Geralts shoes, not my own.. if that makes any sense and it really doesnt have any survival elements to it. Kingdom come is wonderful all around, but again I'm walking in someone elses shoes, not my own. thank you for taking the time to suggest all that though! great games!

I played Rimworld for ages, loved it but it's not very immersive imo since I feel like I'm watching over them as a god or something. Long Dark definitely checks all the boxes for what I'm looking for and I actually might give it a try again. thanks!

Yea, if you look at it and think.. I would really like to manage a base and its people like this.. you'll love it. The mods alone will consume your life. They even have vehicles like boats now. The community is huge. My only gripe was the whimsical nature of the people, but mods can deal with it if you become overwhelmed by them being unhappy for silly reasons. I agree.. it feels more like God game than immersion at times.

You could look at something like this. I didn't get into it, but it does have quite a following of players.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/274520/Darkwood/

If nothing else you get a bump. Its a good list of games going here.
Garou 3/out./2023 às 6:42
My previous reply got deleted.. but anyway .. Deus Ex, Prey, Fallout 4, Dishonored, souls-likes and any games with compact but detailed worlds containing carefully placed secrets and, ideally, ability to create unique gameplay situations, sometimes not intended by the developer.

I have it in my steam library actually, I could've sworn I got it for free with another game I bought by the same developers. It's not a bad game but I couldn't get into it, theres something about top down angles that just kills all immersion aspects for me

It's a good game even if i didn't finish it i was not exactly in the mood to play it when i got it i'm kinda sick of survival games actually, but from what i've seen it's a really good one.

I had my post in the wrong category but I remember your answer. TBH none of those are what I'm looking for as none of them have any of the survival aspects i'm looking for. However, souls games are my all time favorite action RPGs and I probably have more hours in them than any game I've ever played. Fromsoft is a god of game development and I give you kudos for suggesting them. Praise the sun!

Have you tried survivalist?, It's survival with all the npc's are being simulated all the time and have the same needs as the player character (Hunger, Thirst, Sleep and Temperature) Though this one is more of an RTS/Hybrid and RPG rather than an immersive sim, it doesn't even have interior building.
