And I checked, the average range is 400 to 500 miles, which is way more than you'll get on a full tank of gas.
But what do you have to worry about, you aren't the one inheriting this world, and as long as you aren't inconvenienced, who gives a ♥♥♥♥ about future generations. Let them clean up your mess.
Electric cars are a big mess from what I learned.
For example you can't just do a simple tyre change, you have to call in a specialist to configure some sort of chip in the tyre and the car because all the tyres are weighted specially, so a simple tyre change takes hours.
On top of that I was told the most expensive part of an electric car is its battery and they cost £15,000 to replace for average size cars, and the batteries do deteriorate rapidly over time, so electric cars will never last as long as petrol engine cars, you still find working classic cars from the 50s,60s,70s but with electric cars they will never reach that age unless the owner wants to shell out that price for new batteries constantly, own a £30,000 electric car, half its cost is the battery and when you end up replacing it, you might as well just buy a new car and scrap the one you got.
Then comes the fact you can't drive whichever route you want, you need to use the cars computer to pre arrange your driving route to make use of charging points, and if you run out of battery you don't just get towed or use a can of petrol to fill the tank, you have to call a number and have a service vehicle come to you with a temporary charging machine (think like those portable phone charging blocks you can buy, but bigger) and have to pay a huge fee just for enough juice to drive to the next charging port.
Then you have to sit for hours for it to charge, whilst if its a petrol car, you just find a petrol station, fill it up and pay in 10 minutes and be on your way.
So yeah, electric cars suck.
It's a cartoon and untested tech on British Rail? wtf you going on about? Steam engines are junk compared to diesel locos.
I'm happy to see the technology evolve though. It will be interesting to see how things stand in another ten years.
Then there is the man who tried to use an electric F-150 to take a family vacation. Family ditches electric truck on drive from Winnipeg to Chicago after charging troubles[www.cbc.ca] and rented a gasoline powered vehicle to finsh with their plans. The range of said truck, 515 kilometers (320 miles), is less than what my gas powered truck can go. Add weight to that electric F-150 and the mileage goes down.
Multiple sources have pointed out that the carbon footprint to build an electric car is greater than a gas powered vehicle. It puts out way more pollution to make electricity to power the car, and to manufacture it from what I recall.
Not only that, but we don't have any good methods for dealing with the waste from the batteries.
They also require constant new batteries, which are difficult to recycle, and use electricity from said battery 24/7 just keeping the battery stable in low or high temperatures...
