Would you support legislation that prohibited cheating?
Personaly I think that cheating is plaguing the online gaming communities, and I feel like it is a detrament to the game developers by causing their players to abandon games from frustration.
There are several businesses that develop software for the sake of cheating and they are gaining a foothold and these slimy punks are taking money and ruining other peoples games. If hacking is illeagle why not cheating.

While I think our government is too busy doing other things to fully support any type of cheater legislation. I am curious as to what you all think about this. so I ask these questions:
1) would you support any kind of cheat blocking legislation why/why not
2) what solutions do you think there could be for this problem
3) Is it even an issue
4) Is enough being done now to deture cheating

No. Cheating should be handle by the companies you don't need some government stepping trying to fix that. Also they have better things to spend money on then to make sure your multiplayer game is "fair".
Start manufacturing computers that violenty self-destruct if they detect cheating software in them.

That can backfire if a developer is trying to test his game.
That's almost funny. Those that could "legislate" this are the biggest "cheaters" on the planet. And I'm not talking about a simple video game.

Cheat providers rely heavily on funds from serious illegal online activities (like credit card fraud or theft), but the police in Russia and China (where they are usually based) rarely ever bother with these crimes. Legislate all you want, but if no one is doing anything about fraud or theft online, you could bet they'd care even less about online hacks.

First you'd need a good definition of cheating. Otherwise the laws wouldn't be very useful.

"Aliens", right? You're talking about the "aliens" who built the "pyramids"?
Government interference in video games is not something you want, the sjw will bleed it into every area. Soon you'll have quotas for gender and skin color in gaming.

The uk gov was talking about making stealing in game items a prosecutable offense, which would be good, all those people hacking steam accounts do belong in jail, well perhaps not jail, a stiff fine..

WHAT? No. Pork filled law bill's, kick-backs from lobbyist and nepotism, granting contracts to their "friends", etc... is what I'm talking about.

I don't see the point in legislating this, but you talk as if there is no point in legislating anything anywhere.

Anyway, I prefer aliens.

Police states are bad, so no.
If the government cared about gamers then we'd be able to play games for presidencey and also if people cheat the government wouldn;t and won't do anything until it effects all of the country on a widespread scale making game developers all loose their jobs. Then every country would have cheating banned.
Its just supply and demand, if there is a demand, (and the amount of cheats in online gaming would indicate there is a healthy demand), then there will be a supply because someone somewhere will cash that. If you want to buy it, someone will build it.

Which is exactly how we got to P2W.
