How much does your 4090 cost per month?
In electricity...
Messaggio originale di Dutchgamer1982:
my 2080ti did cost me "only" 1600 euro.

with it's 250W tdp and power around 60 eurocent per kwh (down from 1.20 euro per kwh a year ago but stillway up from the 25 cent. pre ukrraine war normal price.

that means running it costs 15 eurocent/hour

a 4090 with its 450w tdp would cost 27 eurocent/hour..
if you game 40hr/week average.
(2 hr/day on workdays 8hr/day of weekends and holidays) that amasses to 561.60 euro/year with 1.5 years between gpu generations and usually users replacing their gpu once every 2 generations.. you are expected to use it 3 years.
over that 3 years at current energy prices it would use 1685.80 euro in electricity. JUST for that gpu not counting other parts.
enough that gpu manufactuers really should not bring out such insane high tdp gpus as poweruse HAS become a factor in buying hardware.

I'll tell you guys what, though.

I really miss the days GPUs were totally silent. No fan or anything. This jet engine right here beside me...

the last of those was the palit KalmX 1650ti

a card that can no longer be found and that if it did, would no longer keep up with todays games, as it has not the 8GB Vram needed for those.

You.....you realize it doesn't run at 100% power consumption 24/7 unless you're doing it wrong, right?
my whole computer consume consume less power then some of the recent graphic card. lol

but I don't care , I have tons of games like Rune Factory 5 that run on potatoes.

Yeah... maybe certain cards sit around 450W constantly.

Mine reached 420-ish at most in one game. And even then it's not a consistent draw at that level. Hell, you can limit the power draw to less for a tiny performance loss you'll likely not notice anyway.

wintertime heater though so you save some from inefficency

What winter? We get a couple of cold spells that last a week or two these days but that's it. I had my AC on for Christmas.
It could certainly be a factor for me though. The furnace is usually on 7 months of the year here, and any excess heat produced by a GPU would be heat that doesn't need to be produced by the furnace.

This went over my head at first but my god that is expensive. People here complain about the cost of electricity but even the highest on-peak rate is $0.24/kWh. The overnight off-peak rate was recently lowered to just 2.4 cents. The weekend rate is 7.4 cents.

People who can afford a 4090 definitely do not care about their electricity bill.

Is like asking people who have a Ferrari how much is their annual gas and insurance bill.

I don’t see problem with high tdp gpu’s

I can have a game running all day. Sommofasmitch can get pretty loud on some games. Had a drop a few settings in NMS from Epic to High just so I can hear the game.

I'm all on Air Cooling and seeing as this is an AM4 CPU I don't feel like investing in anything. I'm done updating this rig but the next one I'm going to pay more attention to acoustics.

thats the maximum amount it can cost under those conditions... very unlikely it will cost anywhere near that
a high TDP does not mean an inefficient GPU :P

I made a comment about that on page #1 - (I agree with you) But it wouldn't be the first time in history that someone bought something they can't afford.
Well how much do you think you can end up paying per month if you could get an RTX 4090 financed ?

Oh boy I'm sure there is at least one person in the world living on a modest income that did it. Lol

If not , well credit cards ? Yeah like , there been peoples who got one and they should not be having one because they're too impulsive.

There should be rules on this:

1. If you are still living with mommy and burning her electricity they are not for you.

2. If you don't own your own home and don't have solar(plus possibly batteries for night use) no luxury graphic cards for you.
