with it's 250W tdp and power around 60 eurocent per kwh (down from 1.20 euro per kwh a year ago but stillway up from the 25 cent. pre ukrraine war normal price.

that means running it costs 15 eurocent/hour

a 4090 with its 450w tdp would cost 27 eurocent/hour..
if you game 40hr/week average.
(2 hr/day on workdays 8hr/day of weekends and holidays) that amasses to 561.60 euro/year with 1.5 years between gpu generations and usually users replacing their gpu once every 2 generations.. you are expected to use it 3 years.
over that 3 years at current energy prices it would use 1685.80 euro in electricity. JUST for that gpu not counting other parts.
enough that gpu manufactuers really should not bring out such insane high tdp gpus as poweruse HAS become a factor in buying hardware.

Shhhh you're not supposed to think about this.

Just consume.

There was a time you could mine crypto to offset this, but alas, that got ruined by... Well... Just the whole thing

You ask how much it costs in the summer, but not how much it saves in the winter.

Just kidding, that's AMD

Bonus question: Can i even afford a 4090 if i'm thinking about the electricity bill? xD

None, I'm a psychopath, I bought a 4090 and left it unplugged to just sit around.

Here in hyper-inflation Germany, to run a 4090 for an hour, you have to sell your 4090 within an hour.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

It is also important to note, that the powerdraw is not consistent, even when gaming.

Good grief, you beat my gallows humour with cold hard facts. This is both soothing and depressing.

I'll tell you guys what, though.

I really miss the days GPUs were totally silent. No fan or anything. This jet engine right here beside me...

What winter? We get a couple of cold spells that last a week or two these days but that's it. I had my AC on for Christmas.
