Currently trying Mythos by Stephen Fry, one myth at a time. I love the storytelling vibe of it and his take on the old legends

For me, books have to have a high stimulus, grandiose language and impart some usable knowledge. Otherwise I put them down straight away.

The very hungry caterpillar, an existential epic (and cautionary tale) about modern day greed and all it's ills. A heartfelt critique of capitalistic society and a guide to solve the climate crisis and mental illness. Ultimately the most important book of our generation.

Yes, I recommend the classics too. Too many to mention. Middlemarch? Stoner? American Tragedy? Those can be dense in wisdom though.

The Foundation series for sci-fi. The Bourne series for thrillers.

It's actually one of very few classics I actually enjoyed. I have (medically-diagnosed) attention problems so anything with lengthy descriptions is like kryptonite for me. As well as most if not all of the paid-by-the-word era.

But there are a handful of school reading list books from the last century or so that I liked:

Last Night in Twisted River
A Separate Peace
The Great Train Robbery (I had a high school teacher who was actually cool enough to assign a Crichton Novel in a history class, lol)
Of Mice and Men

Still, most of my recs are sci-fi. I'm a huge Crichton, Clarke and PKD fan, and I liked the Asimov Robot Novels. Foundation wasn't really my thing though.

I haven't actually read a PKD novel, though. I've read just about every short story he ever wrote, though, and they are all fantastic.

And actually, a lot of Crichton's works don't have the slightest bit of sci-fi in them, but they're still great. The only one I don't recommend is Timeline.

I was thinking The Firm by John Grisham is a good book.

I haven't read any Tolstoy, but I know he writes good stuff.

If you like Greek Mythology, there's a book series called the Canongate Myths collection in which contemporary writers re-tell various ancient myths.

Jeanette Winterson re-tells the greek myth of Heracles meeting Atlas in her book "Weight: The Myth of Atlas and Heracles."

I recommend it.

Dark Matter

The story is about a physicist who is kidnapped and sent to a parallel universe in which another version of his life unfolds because of a different choice he made fifteen years previously.
