Ghost types are only weak against ghost type attacks in that generation (since Dark didn't exist yet), which is overwritten by the normal type's immunity against ghost type attacks, and conversely, normal types are only weak against fighting type attacks which is overwritten by the immunity of the ghost type. So what you end up with is a pokemon with trhee immunities (since ghosts are also immune to normal attacks) and no weaknesses, instead of a pokemon with one immunity and one weakness. Now I'm not so sure about how this works out on the modern day alignment chart. I haven't played since Gen. 3, and there are fairy types now.
Maybe I wouldn't be so lucky as to get the perfect typing, but on average, having a dual typing should end up being roughly the same on average, if not slightly advantaged. Stacked resistances get x4 resistance, stacked weaknesses get x4 vulnerability and conflicting resistances neutralize each other, but an immunity overwrites a weakness.
Also, Pokemon is not a very defensive game. Most pokemon are usually being blown away within the range of just 1-3 attacks, so having the extra offensive power to get more O.H.K.Os. is probably more useful than extra durability, esp. if I lack a recovery type move.
Right? Being caught by either poachers or snot-nosed kids, torn away from your home and habitat, only to be jailed in a ball and forced to fight others, all while being marketed by corrupt Nintendo and being featured in a game series that is getting progressively worse.
Complete nightmare.
