Before there was an understanding of what hysteria was, it was considered normal to go to a doctor to have an orgasm. Doctors would literally have sex toys for those patients because it would 'cure' them temporarily.
Why does it matter when they become an adult?
Sex is not a job. Broadcasting video games isn't really a job. Entertainment is a job, and you continue to hold a PHD in smartassery.
What you consider to be a 'real job' is not a measure on what should and shouldn't be legal. Ironically, prostitution could very well be considered entertainment.
Allowing prostitution to be legal actually reduces sex trafficking since victims can now go to police for help without fear of being arrested.
Ngl, going by the article I've linked, I'm pretty sure legalising and regulating prostitution could help solving the incel problem.
ya, its a situation where i see vulnerable people who need help and need a way out, but at the same time, if its done incorrectly, which it likely will be thanks to some sick corruption in high places, we might see a level of exploitation that can't be stopped.
i was told stories from the older veterans who are no longer with us that it was a former prostitute that helped to close brothels in the post ww2 france/germany, as the madams and pimps would charge so much to the workers that they couldn't ever leave the place they were working at, using violence/ finance / and perhaps just inexperience against the workers to force them into a pseudo financial slavery. and this is just a single example in one country.
i dont think the profession should be illegal, honestly. I do speak against it but im not afraid of the prostitution itself - i'm more worried about how easily bad actors are going to use it as a major workaround to really start up a new cycle of abuse.
it's been the subject of deep abuse and corruption already ad nausea in history, is it really going to get better *this time* because we somehow have some means that scare potential offenders into not trying to abuse it or commit further crimes against an already vulnerable part of society?
from what i see, most places have disabled capital punishment, and become more welcoming to criminals in recent years. it just seems like it would be a candy land to the sex offenders already out in public, and the ones that haven't been caught yet.
You can still find prostitutes when you're an adult. The law only deters - and sets the agreed upon rules of society.
Don’t want to say “well actually” but they already do that. When Florida catches a prostitute and determines they are part of sex-trafficking, they are treated as victims, not criminals, and provided programs, etc, to help them, instead of a prison sentence.
Anyway- I do not wish to go deeper into the subject. It’s a tough situation regardless I think. There is no right solution. Will trafficking always exist, probably. Does making prostitution illegal increase its occurrence? I would need to see the statistics. Perhaps it does.
If you find a prostitute in an area where prostitution is illegal, you are most likely feeding into a sex trafficking ring.
A situation where the 'prostitute' you found literally can't get help to escape what she's in because she would be arrested before whoever is selling her out.
'When Florida catches..."
That's the issue, they have to be 'caught' before anything can happen. With it legal, they can go to the police first and not risk jail time period.
That's arguing the tail of the probability distribution. The vast majority of prostitutes are women. It's mostly a one way street. You know, human nature and all.
Just because it´s legal doesn´t mean that every problems around it is solved. It´s still cheaper to do it illegal. There´s still human trafficking. There´s still much abuse about it. Because people need food on the table - but also want to have sex, or want to live out certain fantasies. So it´s always nice, if some people only have their body to make money with - even better if they´re "illegal" in a certain country.
