I knew a teach in high school named Mario. And we called him super mario. So I'm sure sonic could fly, like a jet.

The way most people only know how to say my name is also unisex for a Chinese name, so it wouldn't matter for me that much either, except that I wouldn't look Chinese, unless this scenario would also change your race.
