In your opinion, is it worse having no father figure, or a weak father figure?

In my opinion it's worse having a weak father figure, as you have to learn everything on your own just like with no father, but worse since there's things you have to unlearn as well.

Generally speaking, for both genders, if they grow up without a father, they'll be more mentally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and cognitively failed, than for cases where both parents were present during raising the children. You don't know what you're talking about.

Nor are you, at least I can give the perspective of someone who was raised in a single parent household. I'm sorry if you were raised so badly that you wish you had a father, unless you are speaking as someone who has only experienced both parents and are just assuming being raised by a single mother is worse then pretty much any situation where the father is in the picture.

A weak one is worse.

Lacking a father figure is one thing, but you can just adapt around it and live life otherwise. But a weak father could teach you bad habits that'd take years to break.

Unfortunately many single mothers do not deter their teenage sons from trying to step into the role of becoming a provider.

Without an responsible and accountable role model father to emulate it seldom ends well. This is because such sons will often fail to carry such a heavy burden correctly since they can't get a job that pays enough to pay the bills.

Such sons are left with few choices and are taken advantage of by unscrupulous men that offer ways to score quick and easy money. Prisons are filled with young men like this and it's even worse for society if such sons become streetwise and ruthless enough to avoided getting caught.

true, im guessing these people were fortunate enough to have two, stable parents in their home, so they don't understand how in some circumstances it would be preferable to have 1 stable parent instead of 1 stable parent and 1 unstable "weak" parent

I meant statistics of people being interviewed and prefering that they'd lived with their father if they were alive. Or is it possible that situations that cause one parent or another to be absent are often linked to bad situations in general and the children would have lived terribly anyways but ended up in the better of two possible scenarios?

I have no idea. Guess it depends on what you mean by "weak". A father that's weak but ultimately cares and at least tries, even if he doesn´t succeed, is far better then a weak father who doesn't care and instead lies on the coach all day and drunk beer while neglecting every responsibility of a father. The former is very likely better then no father figure... maybe even the latter as well, even though I'm not really sure. As I said, I don't know. It seems very contextual to me with just how bad of a father the father is.

My intuition is that fatherless children probably worse of in the vast majority of cases, with some corner cases of exceptionally neglectful fathers. Or abuse fathers for that matter.

What you had, were an abusive father, not a weak father, learn the difference.

not sure if that's necessarily true, but id certainly say he was weak in many different ways. then again, we didn't exactly establish what "weak" means in the context of this thread. also, no need to make assumptions

This isn't about if it's better to have two parents, 240p enjoyer said loving under a single mother will end in you dead and implied it was worse then living with a single father. This is about if it would have been better for the people that had their father taken out of their life would have been better off with them in their life, it's obviously harder for single parents then for two parents but when they are single it's usually because having the other parent in the picture would have been worse for everyone involved. The only way of knowing otherwise is to see if people who got to know the other parent would have preferred that they had a bigger role in their lives.

i don't think he understands that studies are great for making general statements, but the results of studies don't necessarily predict every single outcome (and don't consider outliers). this is just assuming whatever studies he linked are even legitimate, but yeah lol
