Why people don't like Denuvo
From what I know Denuvo is an anti-tampering, a software made to avoid people messing up with programs. It makes the game harder to crack but also make hard to mod.
From my point of view there's nothing wrong with it and I don't think people would be so fired up just because a game don't allow mods, there must be another reason! I think I read some review pointing to a loss of performance but I'm pretty sure non of the game I own use Denuvo so I can't say.
I'd like to ask people that had experience with this software simply what's wrong with it, what's the problem, why the fuss?

I would even go as far to say most gamer's don't even have a clue on what denuvo does or doesn't do but are simply jumping on the bandwagon of hate.
That's why I created the post. There are probably billion of posts like this but I need to point out my ignorancy on the subject and recive exact direct answer for my specific question.
The Steam forums aren't the best of place for unbiased discourse and information. People have many opinions and beliefs here. Denuvo isn't the worst in terms of business practices but full disclosure, I consider Denuvo an inconvenience for users and a waste of resources for developers.

The effects of Denuvo have been widely documented: Denuvo anti-tamper adds limits to how you can use the products, installation limits, online requirement, dependency to a third party server and domain as well as encryption, obfuscation and running the executable through a VM which causes incompatibilities and diminished performance on some implementations. It makes a small yet pivotal subset of mods such as script extenders more complicated to make. It has the ability to occasionally block users from enjoying their purchases temporarily when the undisclosed conditions aren't met and permanently when the servers, the company or the publisher close their doors.

This resulted in large scale issues and outages such as Unplayable games, performance issues and incompatibilities. Add to this the problems it causes with the Steam deck due to limiting hardware switches to 5 a day. It also causes occasional individual issues at random.
You can see it happening on video here: Can't play MH:Rise because of DRM (live in front of 60k viewers)[clips.twitch.tv]

I hope this answers your question in a sufficiently direct manner. You may refer to https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Denuvo#Denuvo_Anti-Tamper for more unbiased information about the technical side of that middleware. :clickbutton:

the fad of slapping it on 15 year old roms recently is really annoying too
like, i wanna buy your game and support you but it would take me 30 seconds to download it on my cellphone for free and thats a pretty strong argument.
The large problem with denuvo is performance is affected. The whole "always online" isn't much of an issue since most people's pcs are online 99% of the time anyways.

This gets harder if you're using a steam deck or a laptop, but when you choose a portable option you should expect it to have some drawbacks as a result, so eh.

Also, the day denuvo servers go offline is going to render a lot of games unplayable. Is this an issue that'll last? No.
Most companies will probably rush to remove denuvo asap if it causes their games to be permanently unplayable, so this would only really be a temporary issue at most.
they don't like it because it's the even worse sequel to starforce
Because it can hurt performance and moddability without actually providing anything of benefit to the consumer.
I feel like this topic should be sticked at the top of the page it comes up so often
I would even go as far to say most gamer's don't even have a clue on what denuvo does or doesn't do but are simply jumping on the bandwagon of hate.

Actually, to be honest I did a research online but only understood that Denuvo is an anti-tampering bla bla bla used not only for games bla bla bla anyway needed to ask people with experience with it.

Yes, this as other utents answers helped me understanding what's wrong with Denuvo. The answer I recieved fullfilled every question I had. I think It's time to close the discussion. I'll try to leave it here for future references.

Can I ask your specs and what game with Denuvo included you played?
Yes, of course.

Far Cry 6
Callisto Protocol
Hogwarts
Soul Hackers
Atomic Heart
Dead Space
Jedi Survivor

I think these games have Denuvo code.

I had no issues with these games and I play them with high settings at 60fps.

Asus X570, Ryzen 9 5900x, 6900xt, 64gb 3600mhz ram. The games are installed on Samsung Pro M.2 or Evo SSD drives.
sorry I did not get back to the discussion in time thanks for the response it was a very old xp pc I think or 7old HP unit years ago, I just knew the game stopped working when Disney first took over and have not played the game since.
