Yeah, Placebo does a good job of adapting it to different stylistic tendencies.

Meg Myers is more an attempt at recreating the original (maybe a bit too much? I wish she'd taken just a little more license for flair), but yeah I had no idea she had that in her. I actually barely knew anything about her until I'd heard her version, fantastic vocal performance.

Actually, a lot of covers of Hallelujah are better than the Leonard Cohen original. I like the original and all, but it skips some of my favorite verses and I wasn't a fan of the way Cohen did the chorus. A lot of the covers do the arpeggio twice, which sounds a lot nicer to me.

All the worst covers are the ones that don't understand the song at all and try to do too much. There's room for interpretation and all, but it's vital that it be performed with one voice and one instrument.
