If its brown, lay down.
If its black, fight back.
If its white, say goodnight.
Brown bears can run after to you very easily so best not to appear as a threat. They may attack though if they think you pose a threat to their cubs.
Black bears can be frightened off if you make loud noises, appear bigger than they are using your jacket or if you throw large rocks and other items if they try to approach you.
White bears although usually not in a forest will attack so kill them without hesitation.
I have the feeling Electric Cupcake really likes bears.
So, yeah, I would DEFINITELY carry bear spray in back country. It's smart.
But if it happens, I suppose stand still, do not be aggressive, and hope for the best.
I'm hardly posting at all this afternoon.
This. Moose are way bigger ♥♥♥♥♥ than us bears. A moose once bit my sister.
Bears are also good runners...
Brown bear... 35 mph / 56 kph
Black bear... 30 mph / 48 kph
Polar bear... 25 mph / 40 kph
I think I'm getting the "kph" correct...
Very hard to do so not a productive solution. The back country is awesome.
What you want to do is make them hear you from a long distance. Most animals don't want to tangle with humans.
I don't know if anyone else willj remember, but I will. Moose can be crazy.
Where I lived before there were black bears. Way up north.
Up further north, I think there are brown bears. Don't f with brown bears, especially a mother bear near cubs, or around their den. They'll kill you
So, in a situation like this, what would I do against a bear?
Black bear? Run away, and survive. Why? They also run away from humans. We have a mutal agreement.
Brown bear? Run away, and probably die, or slowly retreat by stepping backwards in a non-aggressive stance, and then try to break line of sight with the bear, but only slowly. This is seemingly the only way to survive against a brown bear, that I know of.
The only other way I know of to survive against a brown bear, would be if you had some kind of advantageous terrain to work with around you. They won't mess with a cliff....so if you had some way to repel onto one and pick into it, you'll survive. Or, if you had a gun powerful enough to defeat a brown bear. Or bear spray. I would probably use bear mace, since I have some, but that's only good for five seconds, so I better hope they're looking at me and within range.
I spent a great many hours of each day navigating through forests to get exercise, in many different areas, so I can usually spot a brown bear before they spot me. At that point, it is best to break eye contact with them and move away slowly, then break line of sight, then run away and hope you have a car nearby that you can drive away with. I would have to....idk, hope there's a water drain nearby to climb in. I don't think a bear would be smart enough, or capable enough to remove one of those. They need human grip to do that. Their brute force might be strong enough to break the grate, but they likely wouldn't do that.
Prove it
Well, people who spend a lot of time outdoors in areas where they frequent tend to be armed. Usually the more dangerous bears live in places where they're not the only dangerous thing either. Usually where there are brown bears, there are also mountain lions, or moose.
Maybe just putting your arms over your head and looking bigger and yelling might help?
That's why I said bear spray... but yes, without something you're not going to make it.
