Anti-Capitalist cafe (The Anarchist) in Toronto is shutting down
The owner Gabriel Sims opened his cafe in Toronto cananda in march 2022 as a anti-capitalist cafe were customers would pay what they can afford to pay for the coffee while higher prices for other drinks helped subsidise the shop as well as selling merchandise. But now the cafe will close it doors after a year in business after failing to make enough money.

The Anarchist opened in March of last year with a goal of making third-wave, specialty coffee drinks accessible to working-class and poor people. The cafe offered pay-what-you-can drip coffee alongside a range of lattes, teas and pastries. It also carried radical books, prints, and merchandise. People were not required to make a purchase at the cafe to use its restroom facilities or rest in the space

'Unfortunately, the lack of generational wealth/seed capital from ethically bankrupt sources left me unable to weather the quiet winter season, or to grow in the ways needed to be sustainable longer-term,' owner Gabriel Sims-Fewer wrote

All I can say is fair play and respect on him for opening up a business in these bad times in a business model that was clearly going to fail form the get go but at least he had the guts to give it a try.

But then his closing statements about 'F*** the rich. F*** the police. F*** the state. F*** the colonial death camp we call 'Canada' and he other states about the police and military kind of lets this chap down in my book. But good luck to him for the future.

You really might as well make coffee free if you're doing that. Wouldn't that be less capitalist anyway?

The model does kinda make sense--coffee is free, everything else costs money--but in that case they should have put more stuff on the menu that you'd actually order along with coffee, like croissants or pastries or something. Who's gonna get a latte to go with their coffee?

Oh they did...

They sold things with political / social hot-takes at inflated prices to make up the difference...
like pamphlets, hats, t-shirts, stickers, etc.. everything one would need for their next protest march.

Funny how "anti-capitalists" still sell things for money... almost like it's a business or something.

Coffee shops in general should have that on the menu, coffee alone isn't gonna insure enough income especially if you can't consume it on site. Idk anything going for it but guess that's too capitalist.
maciavellie ehhh lol
The further I look into this, the more stuff comes my way. Like that Australian feminist vegan cafe that charge men like 18% more or that marxist run co-op vegan restaurant in michigan, both closed their doors due to none profits.
Should have allowed me to rob them, since it's anarchism

How could that have possibly backfired

Pretty much...

Mix business with personal agendas and it's not going to go well.

This was before it closed down, the owners explaining the reasons.

Again, why would any male go into this cafe just to pay more money and wait longer just because your a man is beyond me. Plus the gender pay gap mostly affects the higher ups in managements more than it affects normal working class people who earn little.

Plus if it this cafe was still open, could they still charge men who identify as women. Seems like a legal slippery slope to me.

I don't have enough data to watch a video, so I'm going to assume the reason was the man spread makes them take up three times as many seats, so it's really a good deal.

You remember the man spread, right?

Yeah, im sick and tired of political agenda's taking root in businesses. Bud light is now suffering massively due to them trying to bud in on the LGBTQIA+ agenda which has cause it's main core customers to boycott them and because they also failed to back dylan, many gay bars are also boycotting bud light, it's just crazy as hell.

All I say.... just run your business for everyone and keep political nonsense out of your business. This way no one will be upset or should be upset.

Agree... time for companies to stay in their own lane...

Bud Light
Miller Lite
Disney
Netflix
Amazon

The harder they try the more money they throw away for nothing... it doesn't change a thing other then hurt their own company... small or large... it just hurt their company faster when it's smaller

It's easier to boycott a company such as Anheuser Busch (bud light) because they are more options to choose from. In this case, more beers on offer to choose from. In the case of disney, not soo much because they corner a massive share of the market including starwars and all the stuff your children love to watch and buy. I don't have disney at the moment but the time is near were my kids want to watch the little mermaid:steamfacepalm:

As for amazon, they is no real competitor as per say because amazon are everywhere. Well it's possible but you need to do research and find other sources for your stuff because most people just simply don't have the time.

The biggest one at the moment is adidas, launches a women's swimsuit but it's model by a man.
