Social media is changing our brains?
https://www.news.com.au/technology/online/social/the-dark-side-of-social-media-baroness-susan-greenfield-says-social-media-is-rewiring-our-brains/news-story/480b43a510ccb79dfa09636bf5e4c0fe

Professor Greenfield, who is also a member of the British upper house, says the hyper-connectedness of today’s youth gives them shorter attention spans and makes them more narcissistic, more susceptible to depression and anxiety, and less empathetic.

It's very possible. She's been pilloried by others on both left and right for saying this.

I think it's possible but the effects of this won't be visibly widespread for many years. What do you guys think? Scaremongering? Or is she right to express concern over children's interaction with social media?

Just from that quote you gave I can tell it's an old article

Social media is cancer anyway, just like TV.
Definitely, and all social media should be shut down.

The short attention span is definitely true. And my younger relatives, who grew up with smartphones from a very early age, seem lost if they are deprived of them for five minutes.
They also seem unable to form opinions or make decisions without seeking validation from their friends on social media.

I think we are seeing the early stages of hive-mind formation.

Social media basically turns the whole world into one giant high school.

Who needs the gossip campaigns, harrassment, cliques, peacocking, virtue signaling, and general vacuousness? It's for mindless drones.

That's why I swear off that horses***.

it's true, I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥

I mean, there's probably some truth in her claims, you don't have to be a neuroscientist to figure out that pretty much everything we use heavily starts rewiring our brains. But she herself as a scientist doesn't seem very credible, as she forgoed the process of peer review and presented the information straight to the public, whatever her intentions this is pretty harmful and spreads misinformation. Based on her prior history she seems to make a lot of ludicrous claims and then back-pedal while also calling all who denounce her sexist.

Too many people are being spoiled by improper use and over-reliance on certain technology.

People have become too reliant on it; instead of working through the problem its mostly just 'Go google it, don't think', the magic 8ball brick will spit out an answer

Ordering a box set of encyclopedias from a door to door salesman instead of simply searching the internet for information that you're interested in doesn't make you a better or smarter person. Access to information and education that's gated by institutions that charge tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars and put people into crippling debt doesn't make the world a better place.

I like to consider that all media at least attempts to change and control you, but you just remain aware and don't let it make you paranoid and controlled in fear....

For those of us which can't do that, get off your twitter and stop spamming bs on a daily basis. You ironically becoming part of it yourself, crying fake news while ironically creating fake news. Addicted to the drama.

I think this could count as a "No ♥♥♥♥, Sherlock" thread. I've actually made it my mission in life to convince as many people as I can that they're being harmed by social media a lot more than what the perks add up to.

Social media can give youth dopamine/serotonine-overload, so everything else than social media will make them sad/depressive.

Its the same as watching too much pr0n. It does something weird with your brain, so you can only get erect/wet when you see pr0n and you can't have coitus when do real life, cause the brain isn't anymore to that. cause its boring.

Small fish, big pond.

There was a time when your world was only as big as the area you walked around except now everywhere you turn and look, the majority are face planted like a child suckling its mothers (you get the point). Intravenously linked to the genie/ginn offering all kinds of distractions and dreams.

Its no wonder people are faced with the possibility of mental health issues when instead of forging a real existence, their lured by a succubus who feeds of them to fulfil their own, draining all sense of material and mental worth and leaving but a husk, a sycophant who naively believes every thought, every action is their own.

WTF is pron?
porn, just a minor change to either be edgy or get past filters. Depends on context.

Since they legit sell porn games on Steam the filter is pointless for that word.
