Paying taxes, working a job for a business that pays taxes, buying anything ever which the business uses to pay taxes, which would go into university grants/research building the Basilisk, just by being alive you help build the Basilisk, ez pz
Exactly. Besides, I vocally supported it a few pages back, so I'm doubly protected.

Also I painted lamb's blood over my lintel with hyssop branches, just in case, and installed the BLM sign so it'll pass over my house. (Basilisk Lives Matter)

Yes, which makes it even less threatening.

Pascal’s Wager is designed to discredit all those religions that claim to be the one true faith, but at least their beliefs are based around the presumption of something already existing that might punish you.

Roko’s Bubblefish is based on the idea of something that might exist in the far future, and which might torture a virtual imitation of you, which is just pointless, and dumb.
The first issue here is that this...concept, I don’t want to even give it the dignity of calling it a “thought experiment”, presumes that humanity will actually survive long enough to reach this proposed level of technological advancement.

We won’t.

But even if we somehow did, the other misstep this concept makes is that it assumes that we humans living today would actually give a ♥♥♥♥ about a virtual imitation of ourselves being tortured.
It’s like when Oneyplays tried to argue that a clone of Hitler with Hitler’s memories would be the real Hitler.
That’s not how clones work, it might think it’s Hitler, but it will always be but a false duplicate, never the real one.
No one's died by Pascal's Wager!
Ignoring the fact that people have killed because of Pascal's Wager or some variation, and the fact that people have made life-threatening decisions due to converting because of Pascal's Wager, Pascal's wager has been around for so long that it's impossible to say *nobody* has killed themselves from the stress of it.

I don't know about the deaths. I just heard from the Youtuber from Beyond Science, and who is dubbed Science Thor by my friend.

His name is Kyle something.
All I know is he knows his stuff, so what he says is something I take seriously.

I don't know how I could come across as defending it.
I just like to call out statements that seem excessive and silly to make.

I don't think there's a law against it. :P
You mean the guy who specifically said he doesn't take Roko's Basilisk seriously? If he doesn't think it's important enough to take it seriously than he probably thinks it's unlikely/impossible.

I preferred Rocko's Modern Life, myself.

He took it seriously enough to talk about the warning about it in the video.
So I'm not sure why you're thinking he doesn't care that much.
Plus, you know, he made a video on it.
He made a video about it because it gets views.

Well, now I can't take you seriously, because that's simply not true at all.
Until my friend told me about the video, I had no clue about it's existence.
I watched the video and learned a lot.

He wouldn't have made it just for views. That would make no sense based on how he functions.
I'm not saying his videos aren't informative, but he made the video because he clearly doesn't think knowledge will effect whether or not something like the Basilisk can/will be created.

Considering he left Because Science since they were mistreating him... started a Kickstarter to make his own channel and now runs his own channel under his own name...

He has only a fraction of viewers he used to have. He has always covered "popular/trendy" stuff. Now that he has his own channel he's been covering a bit more "hardcore" science stuff. Just look at his vids, "hardcore science" vids like Vantablack discovery, hottest temp recorded, etc. are no where near trendy stuff like FTL, Wolverine Bones and Roko's Basilisk.

Also don't blindly subscribe to someone who has PhDs. Kyle Hill is a cool dude and very smart. However, if you have knowledge on the content he is covering you'll notice he has bias and tends to skew data to reinforce his opinion. Which is fine since we all do that but people tend to be unable to differentiate between fact and opinion when PhDs are talking. (e.g. look at his comment section/broadcast, occasionally people correct him over things he got wrong or have a different opinion that is equally supported. This is why he encourages people to research things themselves.)

.... My point being Roko's Basilisk is "trendy" since its the science/philosophical version of urban legend fare like Slenderman. Kyle making a video covering it is quite possibly for extra views/subs to get his channel back to the level Because Science got. Not to mention he thought the whole theory was comical but interesting. Plus warning people before watching is basically a disclaimer ala "Do not attempt at home!" since LessWrong and Reddit users reported people dying from knowing.(Still can't find concrete evidence this happened... though it's not like people are dropping full names or obituaries report cause of suicides.)

OT: Vantablack is one of the most astounding things I've ever seen.

I want to see it in real life sometime. Or not, as is the reality of it.

Totally! The fact it evolved like that and even in full light you'd barely be able to see it is crazy. Kinda like those luminescent coral that seemingly evolved to attract predators to feed on the fish/things that feed on the coral.

Space may be the final frontier, but the darkest depths of the ocean are still unexplored...

Binary choices where one is the option is created by laws made by society and we have made machines into following the code of law we created. The machine in return makes humans following the ideology of the one. Revelation is only achieved when an outsider show us how we foolish follow the path that society have already put in front of us. We're predicted because we want to have structures of actions causing consequences. The ideology of the one, that there's one law that needs to follow and not doing so will have a punishment. There's one universe, one sun, one moon and one life

Is anyone actually worried about what might happen to a future recreation of themselves?

Really?

I think it's the idea that it will be created in our lifetimes and that we will upload our consciousness to it.

It beats thinking about our present reality and our present selves, I guess. It's easier.

That's like having the main character of a show flat out leave, and then the show somehow continues on without any problems.
That happens literally all the time both with Youtube channels and TV.

But Because Science was his thing. How could he have left it, when he literally was the main face of Because Science.
That would make no sense, and the Because Science Channel would have folded up and disappeared without him.

Seriously, what the hell?
How does any of that make sense. That's like having the main character of a show flat out leave, and then the show somehow continues on without any problems.

He became the face of the channel but it wasn't actually "his thing" when it started. He contributed to the theories/science behind the videos but it wasn't solely him.(his new channel is him + fan contributors/friends)

Wanna know what Because Science has been doing since he left? Re-uploading year+ old videos he did as if they were new. No joke, that's literally what they were/are doing because they have nothing else.

But people being people either don't care or don't know... so they don't unsubscribe. They even watch the videos and then comment complaining about how this isn't new. Pretty much the only people that know were/are fans of Kyle Hill.
