Ring-a-Ding-Ding Jerry Springer died today at 79
I remember watching it and every other episode had a fight break out with Steve Wilkos his audience guard stopping the fight's

My brother called the show the Ring-a-Ding-Ding show because of the near brawls on it all the time

----------

See trash TV is slowly dying, first it was here comes Honey boo boo , thank goodness it's gone, next no more Kardashians please, ever again

Ricki Lake's husband.

Jerry Springer made quite an impressive career out of giving liars, creeps and freaks a platform to showcase their degeneracy and moronic life choices - all for the entertainment and laughter of the audience.

RIP.

At least we still have the Biden Administration to carry on the tradition.

I am fairly certain nearly everything on his show was fake.

But yeah, Rest in Peace.

He was one of the originals.

Most people know the story of him being the mayor and the hooker story.

Here is what people really need to know:

Perhaps the original conservative fake TV host was Wally George. Go onto YT for some extra entertaining clips! Really! You won't be sorry for watching them all!

WG was famous for over the top fake conservatism. He would do things like bring female hot oil wrestlers, call them perverts and then wait for them to tackle him into the ring. Anybody with 2 brain cells knew what was going on. Many of those 80's women are just my type!

Trivia Bonus: His daughter is Rebecca De mornay. Look at the family resemblance.

I can't find the specific clip- but I did watch it in high school in probably 86 where he brought on the (obvious fake) head of the church of drugs. Keep this guy in mind. He will come up later.

Fast forward to the 90's.

Jerry Springer got his TV show and it was calm and intelligent. He would have guests such as Al Gore on and they would discuss high minded topics.

Care to guess how the dumb-as-dirt American public responded? The ratings were so low that it was going off the air.

Enter in the church of drugs guy as the new producer. This is when they started hiring actors to pretend to be hillbillies and when the chairs started flying!

This was when Jerry Springer became rich and famous.

There is a moral to the story here.

I don't like to speak ill of the dead, but i'm not really sorry to see the guy go.

i think he helped take television, and morals, in the wrong direction.
He held a mirror up to America. A country which holds itself up as a noble Christian nation but is morally bereft. He exposed the immorality that was already there. Granted, there is an argument to be made about voyeurism and people seeking gratification from the sordid intrigues of others. I find fake Televangelist prosperity gospel preachers infinitely more repulsive.

You do know everything on his show was fake, right?
Like 99% fake.

None of what you're saying is actually what happened in the real world. AT all.

It's like saying A Knight's Tale is a realistic version of Medieval times. :P
I can assure you, they did not play Queen's We Will Rock You in the 1500s.

RIP Jerry. I think he was culturally significant. He democratized tabloid tv, made it for and about the masses. He might not have been the only one responsible, but I think he was a significant part of that movement, which we now take for granted. Regular people being celebrities is normalized now, with streamers and the like.

Exposing just to make show out of it, is being part of the problem.

Again, everything he did on his show was fake.
It doesn't make sense to blame him for a literally impossible problem he never caused.

Why does anyone think his stuff was real? Seriously. LOL wut.
It's like saying the Weekly World News published only real stories!

I used to love reading it when I was in high school, but come on, Batboy isn't real. :P

Isn't this the moral of the story though?

Look at what % of the population since day 1 cannot distinguish between fact and fiction. They never have and they never will.

That's a fair point.

I always just thought it was extreme mindless entertainment. It's like Hollywood action movies and fight scenes, you don't judge it for their realism.

The Jerry Springer show was among the first reality shows to exploit peoples nature by only getting people on they knew would be chalk and cheese. Cheaters went the same way that although didn't end in murder did see the presenter get stabbed.
Trash TV never went away and is now branded reality TV.

Like reality shows.
