Cleopatra
Anyone see the stuff that's going on with the Netflix documentary series. What's your take? I think it's trash race swapping actual historical events.

Look in movies Jesus was always portrayed as a white man. Pictures show Jesus as a white or black man he was neither. He was an olive color because he was from the middle east.

She very likely was mostly Greek.
:steamthis:

Macedonian, actually. She and her brother were the last of the Ptolemies.

Well, I suppose her Son was the last, but he was murdered by his cousin.

She was probably tanned, maybe even olive skinned.

Then again, it's Egypt. Being pale skinned in Egypt must be like a vampire or Irish in the sunlight.

Well some back then thought that being pale was a sign of not being out in the sun and therefore not "common folk" that worked all day in the sun... the richer you were the more pale you were.

It's only now that they know sunlight in moderation is helpful... heck even back then some cultures put on heavy white makeup ( that was bad for their health full of things like lead ) to make it even more prominent they weren't out in the sun working for a living...

In 10 - 20 years with the sun and worry about cancer... people putting on FPS 50+ will be just as pale... the "looking pale and not out in sunlight" might just come back... if not for fashion but health.

Yeah, exactly !

A lot of Finno-Ugric tribes migrated over the Bosporus strait fleeing the indo-europeans.

Take a close look at Cleopatra's eyes in Sid Meier's Civilization III.

People should learn more history before criticizing. I blame the American education system.

Clearly black with Sámi and Finno-Ugric traits.

People get mad over nothing these days.

As I said in my post on comment #50
There you will also see the best argument to why the actor is a much better choice, than many other people picked for the role

At the end of the day, it has to do with what actors you can get and whom performs the best, as I said, I think Adele James, light brownish skintone is much closer to the olive skintone Cleopatra had (that is yellowish brown, for people that don´t know) than someone that is either creamy pallid or light pasty, even peaches...

I looked up Adele James, and she appears to be an excellent choice to play Cleopatra.

Hair, eye and skin color seem about right, and she has a largish nose too, as did the historical Cleopatra.

That's its own separate thing. And yet...

But yes, different cultures generally will portray Jesus to be whatever culture they are. I think it is to convey this sense of identity as Jesus is God for different religions and so if we are of God, that means we would have to look like God. It's culturepomorphism? Lol is that it?
I was just using that as an example for this Cleopatra debate. Nothing more nothing less. As it's basically the same thing.

How is that not detailed enough? They made Cleopatra black when she never was black. I dislike race swapping as whole, but doing on documentary that's supposed to fully protray Cleopatra as black is complete and utter trash. Egypt is actually suing them for it.

Black?

Are you talking about the actor whom plays Cleopatra ?
Adele James has a light brown skin tone, she is not black.

It might not be entirely correct, but close enough, since Cleopatra had a lighter olive skin tone, but if you look at other projections of her, she has often been played by women with fair light haircolour and either peaches, light pasty or even in some cases, trending towards creamy pallid.

None of those are correct either, yet for some reason, nobody cares about those inaccuracies? Why not?..

Humans have a huge spectrum of skintone variation, it is not a black and white take (pun intended)

By your argument, you should also be angry about Craig Russell playing Mark Anthony
When Cleopatra was played by white actors it was because they had star power and were stars to draw in a crowd.

You can't look at the 60s Hollywood movies and think they had access to the world the way we do today. 60s Hollywood didn't have the same clout it does today to pull in people from all over the world. When they had a star, they used that star's draw in movies.

The actress in the Netflix shows is black. Jada Pinkett Smith wanted to tell a black African Queen story. She didn't want to tell a Cleopatra story. It's disguised as a documentary too.
Apexnexius 24 ABR 2023 a las 13:38
Think about it, with the cheekbones and all Jada Smith would be an excellent Cleopatra.

Also, people sayin Cleapatra looked like Egyptians do these days, don't know no nothing about what Egyptians looked like before the Arabs conquered and settled Egypt in the 7th century BCE.

Egyptians today are a mix of all races.
It is a multi-cultural society.

Again. Cleopatra was Black with Sámi and Finno-Ugric ancestry.

EDIT:
People sayin Cleopatra looked like a blonde Norwegian are crazy!
