Why do women wear dresses?
I saw a rant from some conservative about women being disrespectable by wearing pants to official events. So I wondered when women started wearing dresses.

My searching showed that this is the wrong question. For most of history, everyone wore "dresses". There were no pants. Pants are a recent invention.

I still don't see why men started wearing only pants and women are supposed to only wear dresses.

You should dress for the occasion, male or female. However, depending on what you're categorizing as a "rant", I wouldn't say anything to anyone or to anyone of authority at events. It'd just be more of a casual conversation between myself and people I think would share the same discretion.

Rituals are important. Society is important. Belonging is important. I'm all for shaking the norm tree though. For good reason.

Everyone participating in an event and putting in the minimum effort expected for events is a good thing. It's not a bad thing.

why did we stop, have you seen how cool looking the roman outfits where?

men's nads have been in shorts, briefs and underwear , and pants for to long, we need to let them breathe again and dangle freely, to many uptight men nowadays

It makes sense that they came as a progression and the early ones weren't very good. That's normal for all kinds of inventions.

And having said that, a green dress has been purchased. In time, it is going to make one heck of a publicity stunt!

What type of pants? There are many types of pants out there, some look better on women, others look like an atrocity.

Not too many people criticise the tastes of a woman wearing joggers, but dress pants are a different story, they require effort to make work for men; let alone a woman.

On account of decency of course, can't have your tween niece flaunting those calves and driving righteous men to lustful sin with her serpent taught feminine charms.

It's actually kind of funny, but in the 14th, 15th century europe, it was the men that went strutting around in high heels and tight leggings, showing off their figure. Respectable women had to wear the same concealing tunics and gowns that both genders had been wearing a century before.

Because it looks ridiculous on men.

EDIT: women having to only wear dresses is a dumb rule too

I knew a hippie dude who wore dresses in public 20 yrs. ago. I didn't care/made no difference to me. Was practical & comfy for him I guess.

Peeple that wanna draw attention to themselves --> Go For It
. . . typically they have targets on their backs as well.

non liberal / sjw response but pants can show off too much. Tbh pants on females are b.s. since they have such little pockets that they're forced to buy purses.

dresses is like wearing a literal curtain lol. covers mostly everything leaving little to the imagination.

Imo dresses are pretty based overall:

-very comfy and baggy
-looks nice
-can be tight or loose depending on the occasion
-different sizes
-only shows arms and legs and if they're good said person can pull it off
-baggy clothing add some bullet proof linings / metal plates and you got a literal tank

tbh dresses can seem to benefit guys more than girls b/c they got a certain lock and key down there that tend to be crushed or stuck if you don't get the right pants. Maybe why scottish wear those pleaded skirts

Also dresses are hard to pull off. Like a good suit. You need to try.
stuff like leggings warm ups pants etc. aren't.

So to pull one off is hard and requires work which lazy people tend to go against and wanna advocate for pants.

how do i put it. It's like a house vs an apartment. House takes much more to pay own renovate maintain and overall make it look nice from the garden to the interior.

in essence a dress is hard to pull off men or women. So if you can pull it off kuddos. If not welp best to start improving now before it's too late.

Things change all the time, it wasn't weird for men to wear make up, boys were pink and girls were blue. there are skirts for men and throughout history men wore skirts like a tunic and Pteruges

Because they want to. And no man should tell them what they can or can not wear.
