Can popular media please stop calling it AI?
Venting
I really dislike all the popular news media talk about AI. :cleandino:

It is actually 'Advanced Programming' or 'Advanced Logarithmics' (at best) nothing more than that.
The commercial software campaigns from companies are exhausting to read about. And lately they have even started seeping in filling up all my favorite news providers.

They have taken the hard concept of Artificial Intelligence, downgrading the concept into the abyss of hallow cooperate jingoism and worse.

*Frustration*

I will now call it computer science and robust datasets, which enable problem-solving. It also encompasses sub-fields of machine learning and deep learning, which are frequently mentioned in conjunction with artificial intelligence.

I call it a full blown human being, I have people in Japan that will give it skin make it my own personal robot who is smarter then me in every way....

and it left me, it walked out on me one day cause I couldn't keep up with cause it's smart and emotionally superior.

My Robot intelligent being ran out on me with an Alien Race. I am still very much heartbroken to this day.

Thank you.

AI is a lot simpler and most people will know what an "Artificial Intelligence" is about.

No need to over-complicate things by being too literal.

you lowered your standards for whom to hug with, media lowered their standards for intelligence. all as intended.
LeviathanWon Mar 22, 2023 @ 10:10am
AI took the job by preforming media journalism, investigating the corruption within the media establishment.... media hires advanced computer programmers to combat the AI by claiming the AI is preforming corrupt investigations, THE NEWS IS THE SAME STORY EVERY DAY ABOUT THE NEW AI MEDIA VS THE HUMAN MEDIA.

It's digital people who have created 30% of the code on GitHub in 2021, 60% of the code on GitHub in 2022, and 80% of the code on GitHub this year.

I believe (though I could be wrong) the OP's point is that what is being called "AI" in popular media and in corporate press releases doesn't actually meet, what we might call, the "conventional standard" for what actually constitutes AI. There is a fundamental difference between a bot (as commonly used by Google, YT, Wikipedia, and numerous other websites) which is just executing a script vs something that would fit the more 'sci-fi' expectation that the tech industry hopes to one day achieve (such as something more in line with C3P0 or R2D2 from Star Wars, Legion from Mass Effect, and etc - these have simulated thought and sentience in their respective works).

ChatGPT is an excellent example of this. The term "AI" is being thrown around a lot regarding this application, but the reality is that ChatGPT is pretty much nothing more than a predictive word generator aka chat-bot (albeit a very 'powerful' chat-bot). Fundamentally ChatGPT isn't that much different than the predictive word features you can find in text messaging or the search bots a search engine like Google uses to pull up results. With what is actually going on 'beneath the hood', calling something like ChatGPT (an application that is just executing a script) an "AI" is a far-cry from what that term was actually supposed to represent.

Since when media would not inflate something, they're seeing a grain of sand and they make a mountain of it, they see a toy robot and call it AI, As long as they can make a big scoop out of something they will twist it to fit the bill. News isn't worth listening to anymore.... not that it ever been worth listening to

It is kinda in the name.. Lets see what Chat AI says about it.

AI, or Artificial Intelligence, is a field of computer science that involves creating intelligent machines that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and language translation. It involves a combination of advanced programming techniques, algorithms, and mathematical models to create intelligent systems. So, to answer your question, AI is a combination of advanced programming and advanced logarithmics

Been calling these systems "experts systems" rather than "AI" for about a decade at this point.
And weeks ago ChadGTP or whatever was already proven to be a biased piece of propaganda spewing crap just as human "experts" who spew propaganda BS disinfo 24/7.

Partly why people are so impressed with that thing is that over decades, google "search" has been degraded from a genuine search into a small snapshot of popular media, giving an annoying amount of false/irrelevant info with every search, but at least google search still allows some special commands to filter the crap you get.
