Classic Off Topic rhetorical strategies
There's ways that Off Topic people create content to warp perception of persons, places, events and things.

An example: Writing the word 'California' will get people hyper-frothing and attacking it BUT the real strategy of course is to distract from all the terrible things that is happening in other places, like Italy, Florida, Ontario, South Africa, etc....

Any other strategies you can think of?

it does. look it up. do the search. it's a classic off topic strategy to use the word to get a long thread mainly about attacking it.

it's like writing the word vegan
Italy, Ontario and South Africa are my favourite US states

Malaysia.

Yeah im clueless
thanks,any more useful tips?
i believe this thread is being misunderstood.

the point is to list 'rhetorical strategies' not places in the world. the rhetorical strategy i mentioned as an example is the strategy of 'Distraction' or in video game terms, 'Tanking.'
I said on one of my accounts it's the age of misinformation, Anyone can be the victim and you may not even know it's you.

Even your government might not know they're wrong.
One that drives me batty is the bold claim backed by a citation that does not support the supposition, or often, actually contradicts it.

The circular argument : the hallmark tactic of the toxic fanboy. Seen this a million times:

You state a known issue with a game/movie/product,etc that others should be aware of before buying it. After refusing to listen to anything you say or any evidence you offer, they start insulting you. You respond that they are being cancerous. They are suddenly shocked and offended and demand to know why you could possibly think they are toxic. You remind them what they just called you, and then they immediately act like it never happened.

And then usually the whole cycle begins again after a long, pointless tangential attempt to change the subject and question your motivations.

In truth this is way more common on game threads than here.

Edit: A jester award, eh? We've got a circle jerk aficionado in the thread it appears.

This might be an unpopular opinion but I like California… I really do. But I like it in short burst. I can stay for maybe 2 days, 3 days tops; but after that I gotta get the *beep* out because it’s too expensive.
When they create threads asking if pineapple belongs on pizza or not, as if it’s even up for debate!

*sets my gun on the table* so… does it belong on a pizza or not?
possst cat piano
And look, within 4 pages of the front page "WTF Chicago" thread, California, USA is mentioned and the attacking has begun...

so predictable, and this proves my topic thread's hypothesis.
