Why don't Nintendo just port their old games
Ever since yesterday I got this urge to play Ocarina Of Time, I played it a few years back and I do own it just don't got the charger for my 3DS anymore so I'd have to get a new one. Regarding their old N64 titles however, I seriously don't get why Nintendo still just holds onto them? It's not like you can even get an N64 anymore lol, other than that one shop in Japan or if you don't live in Japan you just find it from a third party.

Wouldn't it just be more profitable to port these old games to PC and potentially other systems? I mean it can't possibly be that hard and probably a hell of a lot more profitable than just holding onto them. Especially considering the respect these games still have.

They seem to think there is still a market for them.

N64 is bad enough, they won't even do it for NES, as if sales of Excitebike are gonna plummet if they make it available for another system.

It's available on Nintendo Switch.

But to answer your question, because they don't have to and don't want to.

People like you will buy a Switch or won't play the game. And that is good for Nintendo either way.

There are all sorts of emulators, but you need a good PC to run them properly
If anything that just proves there's a demand for these games on PC, I guarantee you if Ocarina Of Time released on steam tomorrow, then this game from 1998 would outsell every single fancy new release right now.

Because Nintendo is the perfect example of "one step forward 2 steps back". They know exactly how much people enjoy their back-catalog, and that's why they make it hard to play.
They know they can charge a premium for these games finally being playable, they just have to wait for people to be desperate enough.

Also no they can't port them to pc. Nintendo exclusives are the only thing selling their consoles, because without them there would be no reason to own Nintendo over xbox/ps which are much more powerful and up to date.

Nintendo hardware is pretty weak, it doesn't take that strong of a computer to emulate them.

Except the Switch has Ocarina of Time on it.
Because they want you to buy them again on their new system rinse and repeat that is Nintendo's way.

They're the most valuable company in Japan, since their value generation doesn't depend on external sources.

They're not the powerfulest though, technically, so they're encouraged not to be too competitive.

Y'know like SEGA was before somebody decided to use the Yakuza to take down the company.

I highly doubt anyone is going to buy Switch to play OOT (or any other N64 titles) lol. Again there's 2 ways that are probably better but Nintendo doesn't profit from either, the first way is to get an old N64, and the second way has been mentioned already.

I'll take the third way and just get a Switch and play all the Nintendo games on it.
All their games are on pc

Yeah, but isn't it part of the online sub? I thought you can't actually outright buy it for the Switch.

This. The amount of times they resell the same games and people buying them is crazy.

If they ported anything to PC then that would put it end to that.

Now go rebuy those NES games for the 20th time
