Nintendo tried too hard to make an 'adult' game without it being actually adult which would've ruined what made the LOZ great in the first place as being easily accessible to all ages but enough in-game lore to keep people busy wanting to see what's next without feeling like they are being forced a gimmick or dead end.
As it was TP was also a vomit mess trying to appeal to the wrong crowd while forgetting the core Zelda group at the same time so it was essentially a 'gimmick' game and constant cut scenes and the graphics were all too 'brown' in most areas like they went cheap or something. NOTHING like the E3 reveal trailer where it showed a lot of horse battles and distant mountains.
Imagine if OOT had constant cut scenes ruining otherwise peaceful moments in between the boss fights forcing you to do timed actions just for the sakes of it. Imagine Ingo's Ranch Mission being a constant game theme in disguise where you have to escape his ranch in a certain way over and over again. You get very frustrated players.
Wind Waker. Despite the cell shading there is a lot of details with in it such as when Link comes out of the water he is dripping wet for a while before drying off and his head slowly lowers into the water as he loses stamina while swimming. BTW Link's voice is actually a women which is why he 'screams like a girl' when being catapulted.
If you look at E3's in the past on YT back to the 90s archives you can see the amount of vibe and energy that just doesn't exist today since there was actual competition we don't have anymore that were not 'broken' indie or EA (Early Access) games if you want better graphics and features instead of the next 2D platformer or FPS clone. Sadly a lot of Indie Games are pretty much AAA companies with worse graphics and without the budget team to really make it better and AAA companies are all bankers that don't even play the games and sip wine on their yachts at Polonysia.
The MM to WW era and again from BOTW onwards to TOTK.
BOTW has such a huge energy vibe that is lacking in the sequel that just got released. TOTK is essentially a never ending shrine puzzle outdoors based on non spoiler previews.
Nintendo pretty much let go of their 'PR team' since Covid and it's mostly third party people that are doing the advertising it seems. Every game had their own direct but Tears of the Kingdom and it turns out the 10 mint presentation was actually done last minute as well.
Twilight Princess sold nearly twice as much as Wind Waker did.
Your idea of what people want is not what the people actually want.
Personally Twilight Princess is the best Zelda game I've played so far. Have not played the last two.
Breath of The Wild on the other hand... Feels like it's from an entirely different series to me, but most would probably disagree with me.
