If you don't like it, then just ignore it and let the people who do enjoy it have fun with it.
Cool story... still a great Anime...
Doesn't mean I can't be toxic though.
Honestly, insofar as fanbases go, I would assume the Chess, Final Fantasy VII, Sonic the Hedgehog, Star Trek and Touhou Project fanbases are candidates for most obnoxious, and let us be frank here, it is not as if anime or video games on the whole do not have a reputation for obnoxious fanbases in general either. Many anime fans have a bad habit of looking down on western animation on the whole, and there tends to be some sort of obsessiveness with the female characters. Meanwhile, video game players are hypercompetitive, to the point of taunting you any way they can (trash-talk, t-bagging, etc.), and especially those of us who are sore losers who base a disproportionate amount of pride.
However, to judge a work on the merit of its fans has always seemed irrational to me. They are two separate things, and it is like judging honey for attracting bugs or jewels for attracting thieves. You can like the thing without necessarily needing to like the pests it attracts. I do enjoy Final Fantasy VII, Sonic the Hedgehog, Star Trek and Touhou Project myself. I will not be so proud as to suggest that I am not obnoxious, but if I am, I do not blame any of those things for it. Well, maybe I would blame Star Trek, just a little, but mostly just because I think Captain Picard is an overall good role model.
Now you might think "Yeah, but I want to socialize with other people who like what I like", but the second thing to take note of is that a fanbase is not one whole homogonous thing. It is comprised of individual people, much like how sand is comprised of individual grains, and it is somewhat prejudiced to categorically judge everybody who likes something as bad for that reason alone.
It is better to judge people as individuals whenever possible, and even if you can not manage to find any good people who already like the show, then you might consider bringing your own friends into the fold instead.
The only reason I can think of why anybody wouldn't is because they are afraid they'll catch a bad case of obnoxiousness just by watching the show somehow, but being so highly impressionable suggests a lack of strength of character.
Anyway, I am not saying you should have to like Demon Slayer. If you do not like it, you do not like it, and nobody can make you. I do not particularly care about that, and I am not in much of a position to point out why you should or should not like it with so little exposure. I am just saying that I find this reasoning for not liking something kind of silly whenever I encounter it for whatever series is the subject of complaint, and its arguably just as bad if not worse than whatever the allegedly obnoxious fanbase might have done.
I mean, an obnoxious fanbase might die on the hill of justifying why they enjoy something to the detriment and think negatively of others who dislike it, but yomu seem just as ready to die on the hill of saying that other's shouldn't enjoy something and disliking those who do. That is a wash in my opinion.
Anyway, have fun hating Demon Slayer if that's what you want to do.
"I don't like the community"
Yeah well I hate DMC, Sonic, Yakuza communities but I'd be insane if THAT was my reason to not play these games.
