Norwegian language at risk
now this may not seem to you as a language at risk but it is. It's a vulnerable language. It has 5 million speakers. While this may not seem too bad, in truth, back in 2020 it had 5.32 million. As you can see there has been a decline in Norwegian speakers. Worse yet, 95% of Norwegians aren't monoglots meaning, they are fluent in English. That can be a problem since people may start preferring to speak English instead which could make Norwegians status worse. It's not just smaller indegenous languages that are in danger. Norwegian while it is relatively widely spoken is also in danger of being replaced.

If it DOES get replaced then communication will actually simply get easier. Soooo...
Sorry if I seem rude or anything, but I wouldn't mind this happening.

Meanwhile, Low German/Low Saxon has ~10 million active speakers and ~20 passive speakers despite being heavily suppressed for centuries.
Shame, Norwegian doesn't sound drunk like Danish.
Norwegian is happy Swedish while danish is troglodyte. Swedish is just Swedish.

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Didn't we have a thread exactly like this a couple of weeks ago?

And no, it is not an endangered language.

Just because people speak other languages does not mean it is in danger of disappearing. English is used mainly in business, computers, and science. Norwegian is still pretty much needed to do anything else.

Now, maybe in a few thousand years, when we start going out to space, and all, then likely yes, as English becomes the lingua franca of the world.

But this applies to all languages, not just Norwegian, lol.

Idk if english is going to be that important coming up. The west is in the decline. Chinese or russian might be what a lot of people speak soon. Will the world care about english when it no longer cares about dollars?
Wait, Norway is a real country?
All languages in Europe are endangered due to mass immigration, but it impacts countries with smaller populations worse. One could argue that even English is under pressure, but it has been spared the worse since it is the international trade language for now.

I was under the impression that Norway was always a little odd when it came to the language due to it's history with Sweden and Denmark, and it had a lard dialect variation within the country depending on it's region. I really don't know much about the language however.
I wouldn't care much, maybe even the contrary.

Languages exist to separate people. I'm in Germany. Yes, we have Austria, which speaks German, and Switzerland, which has German as one of its three languages, but that's about it -- every other neighboring country has their own language.

I have a french environmental sticker on my car, so I could go into certain areas if necessary (I've never been to France, though). Traffic rules should be fairly similar, and so are the signs. They use Euro to pay for stuff. Even my debit- and credit-cards should work. The only problem: they speak French.

Traveling isn't a big deal anymore -- the language still is.
i dont even know where norwegia is on the map

How many of these "<x language> at risk" threads do we need?
Actually, I just did a lil thinking...
I think it'd actually be a good thing if languages kept getting replaced. It would reduce the amounts of languages in the world and that would make global communication easier.
Can't wait for the future where we all speak one language!

If it makes you feel better my language is dying too. I’m learning more Chinese than my actual Hmong-Mien language. It’s a language that is spoken by the ethnic minority group “Miao, Yao, and She”. They reside in Southern China.

That's not good. I'm sorry for you

I never said it was an endangered language. I said it was vulnerable
