id say its more about more recent releases like any game after 2011 or smth, i think games just became an industry like hollywood were message is more important than content and entire point of games is some hyped "message" or narrative due to internet literally spreading anywhere, peoples views are skewed by internet, news and social media. even to a point were old franchises became a joke with a "message". the terrible part is it is irrelevant often if you dont believe in it, sort of like a cartoon tbh, but i think most games appeal to a younger audience that is below actual age of maturity despite a rating system, like i remember being the most hardcore gamer at certain pre/teen age until it just lost all sense were i became a casual player ie i only occasionaly play unless i got nothing else to do like for example looking at some obscure stuff on the wikipedia when i got no clue what to do with my time.
I think that's an unfair assessment of this thread.
First, maybe some people want to buy "woke" games to virtue signal with their library, legitimize railing on them with an off-site review or whatever.
Second, Valve wants their customers to have a good shopping experience so they have repeat customers, and they should also be acutely aware that few of us have the budget to buy every game in the store. They allow negative reviews seemingly on this basis, so I do not really see them as thinking people choosing not to buy specific games is harming their business. What's more important to Valve is how much money we spend at the Steam storefront, since they make their money on a commisionary basis.
I could see this thread being locked if it starts to run afoul of community rules and guidelines, but not on the sole basis of it being bad for business 'cause people boycott woke games.
I played the game and its not woke
The game has not really a story just someone who shoots demons to save the world.
Yeah because it’s supposed to be a manly game not a twilight game
Honestly western localizers might be the biggest wastes of oxygen in the industry.
Hey Astarion is awesome, if anything dog on Gale. For a guy that banged a goddess he seems unusually obsessed with getting into my male Drow's anus.
Huh, that dig at capitalism from a single localizer is the most ridiculous thing I heard all day. As if communism would let them pursue such an easy job like localization and not 14 hour days in the coal mine.
At least with jrpgs, the games are originally made without wokeness in mind. But then the sad little localizers get their mitts on them :(
They still want to make desirable games but they also want to pursue ESG score too, SF6 for example lets you choose your pronouns and no, that wasn't done by localizers.
