Mummification for pets

It is sad to think about your favourite pets dying but how can you respectfully send off your pet dog or cat when the inevitable happens

do you think it is legal or moral to mummify your dead pets like the ancient Egyptians

To build a stone sarcophagus to place them in, ornate, carved and decorated

And to go one step further, to build a small mausoleum of stone in your back yard to place their sarcophagus in

Do you think it is immoral to bury your deceased pet this way

and do you think it is fair to spend $60k to bury your beloved pet this way with absolute respect

I would not do it personally. Especially imagining the expense of that. Just get them cremated and get a nice urn for them if you can afford it, that's good enough imo and what I already do.

As someone already said, it's not necessary. But I don't think it's immoral. It's a huge gesture and it suggests that you've loved your pet a lot.

well....wouldn't say it's "immoral" per se but money doesn't = respect or "more" respect than if these 60k bank credits weren't used.
but in 2023? really unnecessary.
i've just buried all three of mine that passed on a very serene place.

i buried my favourite cat the other day, i may not have been around to see her passing, but i was there to put her into the ground. i got the closure i wanted and the cat gets to rest in peace. i did nothing more than dig a hole, put her in it and pull the dirt into the hole.

taxidermy personally has always creeped me out, like I'd never do it. but hey, I ain't judging other people

If it wouldn't have been so expensive, I wouldn't mind putting in the effort and doing that.. But like have other people pointed out, it's simply not worth it, the time and the money.
You'd also need to have some space where you'd put their mummification, which could pose yet another obstacle.

Personally, I'd resort to burying them near the place where I live to keep the connection, or burn them and have them put into a gemstone or something.. You know, to keep it as a decoration I could look at, possibly enhancing some of my furniture with those gemstones of them.


There's nothing fair or unfair about that.
You do love them or you have loved them. That's all that matters, regardless of what do you decide to do next.

I don't personally like the idea of that, I consider death to be more of a freedom than a sad finalisation and wrapping up a body to try and make it last forever only for it to become a creepy dried out future museum piece just sounds awful for my beloved cat.

yeah but they didn't mummify them out of respect.... everything we know about the ancient egyptian mummification of cats suggests that they snapped their necks and killed them on purpose. And then mummified them to be sold as souvenirs... even 4000 years ago. To be used as offerings at ritual ceremonies for the god whose favour you wish for.

Some killed cats just sell mummified cats? I thought the Ancient Egyptians respected cats. Considered a very important animal in their society even.
