There is a BIG difference between a friendship hug and head patting.

Is a friendship hug when they come up behind you and your shocked cuz you don't know whats going on? Cuz thats the surprise hugs he liked giving me.

Sometimes I had a knife in my hands or something since i was handling dishes. That was scary, I didn't wanna accidently hurt him.

It should be common sense not to head pat boys once they are older than 10 to 12 years old.

It's called respect.

Giving them a high five is better even once they are past the age of 7 to 8 years old, especially as an acknowledgement if they did something that warrants a congratulation for doing something "cool" or extra helpful. Example when a boy strikes the homerun that earns their team a victory in little league baseball.

I think it's only weird to do with Adults...I will do it to my younger Family members (but they are children) and that often comes with messing up their hair, it's just a Friendly playful thing
