Pc Vs Console
So obviously majority would choose a Console over a Pc. So what makes Consoles better in your opinion? Don’t lie we know you also have a Console at Home. Let me know in the Comments below

The console is nothing but an expensive toy. The multi-functionality of a PC as well as input device diversity put it ahead of a console. A high-end PC might be more expensive but is the better option in the long run.

And as gaming device it has the by far largest catalog of games.

They're not, they can be more convenient, more suitable to your needs, but not "better" especially if you wanna go in the long term run.

You will be stuck with the current generation, have to pay a monthly sub just to play online, you will spend your time installing and uninstalling games because of the limited space (console don't even have the plug and play argument on their side), at some point they are just hardware and software restricted PCs.

They have their use for sure especially if you're just looking for casual gaming and don't wanna invest in a computer (and still, considering the price of the PS5 when it came up, the price of games and the monthly sub, I'm not even sure that argument still stand...)

consoles use to not require game installs, this was great because I played many games, but now that they require installs and games are 100+gb big... nah, I cant justify them.

playstations majority of exclusives are interactive movies, I get just as much out of watching them be played as I do playing them
xbox more or less sells a locked down pc and puts games on both platforms.
nintendo is emulateable while the generations is still going on.

as far as I am concerned there is no good reason to get a console anymore.

My switch has still no broke in 6 years... :steambored:

That is alredy double of those 3 years you saying at the time I am typing this...

Also, on computer, do you not have to constantly upgrade EVERY couple of years too because games become too demanding? -.-

Also...Most ppl are not stupid, they know how to care of their stuff v:

I don't know what a switch is, but I'm very happy you are getting your money's worth. That has nothing to do with the fact that I've bought a whole bunch of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ consoles, and it has nothing to do with caring for your stuff. My PC and my consoles got equal attention... the PC is still here, the consoles are not.

There is NO way you do not know what a switch is... :steambored:

Ok but that has nothing to do with the fact that consoles breaking THAT frequently happens on most... You had problems, that does not mean majority have it... :steambored:

Is not common for consoles to break this fast :steambored:
As other's mentioned console is more for convenience, PC just has more options for games always backwards compatible and if you decide to upgrade you can sell older part to put it towards the newer one also mods. Obviously bad pc ports can occur but even consoles have these issues now. I've seen the mention of the switch yet the steam deck is portable, more powerful and can even run Nintendo games better then a switch.

honestly, if I didn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about nintendo, I probably wouldn't even know what a switch is from name alone, kind of like how I have 0 idea what the current xbox is called.
Depends greatly on the pc.

Pre built pcs will last you half of a console generation, and are therefore obsolete when a series x or ps5 will last you way longer.

Built pcs with parts bought and built by YOU are built to last much longer, and due to all Xbox games being on a windows computer, and most relevant titles from ps coming to pc eventually, built pcs are the best choice out of consoles or pre builds.
Depends on the console. I've never understood how the PCMR misses this point every single time.

Which is better, a Dodge Charger or a coupe? Why would you choose a coupe over a Dodge Charger?

What point?
I own a Nintendo Switch for the Nintendo first party games. First party games or exclusives are the only thing consoles have over PC. Even then, emulation and other factors put PC back in top.

PC is better in pretty much every way. The people who don’t see that probably can’t afford a good enough PC.

Pricing is PC’s only real hiccup. Parts get expensive quickly when going to top tier.

So ignoring the fact that this thread is designed to be funny and divisive...

My first gaming experience was watching my mom play Space Quest in green-on-black monochrome on a 386 DOS PC.

My first gaming experience where I actually got to play was Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt on the NES, and from that moment a console gamer was born. That NES and I were inseparable, but I never forgot watching mom play Space Quest. I couldn't help but feel like there was a whole other world of experiences I was missing out on away from my Nintendo. Growing up though the PC in the house was a "tool, not a toy", and I wasn't allowed to touch it.

It wasn't until middle school when we got an older 486 PC that I was basically given free reign of that system. I dove into it hard. My Internet access was by riding my bike a mile away to the library where I would use dial-up, and I quickly discovered the world of shareware. I would carry stacks of floppies there to bring home and install.

Even still, I was very console-centric. My NES got replaced with an SNES. I bought myself an N64 with my own money which is an achievement I'm still proud of. I got a Dreamcast for Christmas my junior year of high school. I got a Gamecube in adulthood. I bought an Xbox just so I could enjoy Halo 2. I got a PS2 when a friend opened my eyes to the wonder and beauty of JRPGs. I stood in line to get a Wii during it's midnight release. I got a PS3, an Xbox 360, a Wii-U, a PS4, a Nintendo Switch, a PS4 Pro...

Suddenly though, as I sit on my throne made of consoles I realize something. I am tired. The realization came when I had an itch to play the original Zelda on NES. I got that game for NES back in the day. Setting aside the issue of piracy and emulation how do I play Zelda in 2023? I could dig the 30 year old cartridge out and try and get my old NES working. I can't play my Wii or Wii U virtual console copies since Nintendo shut those servers down. 3ds shop is shut down, so I'm SOL there. I no longer have my GBA NES Classics copy. The NES mini isn't for sale anywhere. The only option Nintendo leaves me to play the game I've already purchased multiple times is to subscribe to their Nintendo Online service.

F that.

I'm not going to pay an ongoing subscription to effectively rent a game I've already bought several times now. This is what companies want us to do now. We own nothing. We will rent access instead.

Meanwhile on PC there's nothing stopping me from playing any game I've ever bought in the history of all PC gaming. I can even dig out a dusty old floppy disk, plug it into a USB floppy drive, and with no real effort I'll be playing the same games I paid for decades ago on modern hardware, and thanks to the Steam Deck I don't even have to be tethered to my desk to do it.

Try and plug your NES Zelda cartridge into your Nintendo Switch and play it. Impossible, but that's basically exactly what you can do on a PC. 20 years ago I bought Half Life 2 and it's just as playable on my PC today as it was back then. Nintendo has launched and shut down 5 different platforms in that same amount of time.

So for the first time in any console generation, I have zero desire to go out and buy a new console. I don't want a PS5 or Xbox Series X. My Switch and my PS4 Pro will be the last consoles I own.

But won't I be missing out on those console exclusives then?

Yes, but most of those come to PC anyway. (Except Nintendo, but if I really want to play them anyway, well...) Besides that, I did the math. I have over 30 years of backlog. Even if I were to quit my job today and do nothing but play games for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, I don't have enough years left in my life to finish them all assuming average life expectancy. I can afford to be more selective with what I buy and play, and I've come to the sobering realization that I can't play everything.

Consoles are temporary. PC is forever.

Nice thread.

Anyone who disagrees is a troll...zzzz

The Personal Computer is versatile, more economical, and just plain smarter.

Consoles are for greedy children. I know, I had to buy my kids ALL of them. Guess how many are gathering dust in a closet?

Meanwhile, my PC has lasted me almost a decade now, and I can play any game I like... and I can video chat with friends and family, and I can do word processing, edit videos, use email, and whatever else I can think up.

Consoles, despite their very recent upgrades to processing power, remain brutally limited with regard to user functionality (read as fewer buttons).

Then you have compatibility and access issues that are governed by the corporation who sold you the thing... not to mention security and privacy issues.

I've owned a few myself... they suck.
bro you didnt have to buy your kids nothing. dont let them steamroll over you, and hit them when they get mouthy

I dunno, it's a lot easier for me to pull a cartridge off the shelf, pop it in the machine and power it on than all the hoops I had to jump through to play 1994's The Journeyman Project Turbo on Windows 7 about ten years ago. I never did figure out how to rip the ISO like the guide I was following wanted me to.

For me, it just came to a point where I had more systems than HDMI ports.

But to your point, I did have to do a repair on an NES once, in about 2015. For the typical flashing power light issue.
I can answer that with one word:

Metroid.
As I grow older, I have short attention span. With PC, I play a little, watch a little drama show, read on forum, watch YT, google stuff/ window shopping. Thou not too long ago, after I switched cases on my own, I do enjoy tinkering and learning about PC.

With Console, I don't have to worry when I want to play a game, it flagged negative malware and I have to enable or change stuff around.
I dislike changing unnecessary stuff around. Like groceries store moving things and I have to check different aisle. Window/MSI/Corsair update, either they messed up ( after update, hardware monitoring disappeared ) and I have to do a revert back cos I don't feel like resetting back to before update or something don't work right. Makes me hesitate to do update.

Also, I used to prefer playing on handheld ( still do ) Unlike Laptop, it gets super hot after awhile, So even if both are portable, handheld is my preferred one to go.

Exclusives don't bother me, at most I'll wait or just forgotten about those game, save money, lol!
